On this day in 1942, construction started on my recently de-parted sibling Moffett Hangar 3, with a final cost $1,828,560.69.

Lonely hangar, airstrip, and NAS base in the middle of fields, with SF Bay Salt Evaporators in the distance.

On this day in 1935 Moffett Field was transferred to the War Department, and given to the Army.

Farm lands with a few roads, scattered buildings, and the beginnings of a large hangar.

My construction began on this day in 1931. Happy groundbreaking to me!

Led Zeppelin III was released on this day in 1970. I remain confused.

The Apollo 11 astronauts landed on the real moon on this day in 1969. The landing was not faked inside a giant soundstage somewhere in California. My friends at NASA Ames helped. With the real landing on the real moon.

On this day in 1947, a small Navy blimp crashed off of Point Mendocino during a training cruise. 11 Men had to be rescued from a rubber lifeboat.

My beloved USS Macon made her first training flight from NAS Moffett Field under the command of Cmdr. Herbert V. Wiley on this day in 1934.

I was so excited and nervous for her. And proud!

The LZ-127 Graf Zeppelin was christened by Ferdinand von Zeppelins daughter, Countess Helene von Brandenstein-Zeppelin, on July 8, 1928, on the 90th anniversary of his birth.

Happy Tau day to my friends who celebrate. While it could be argued that my orange peel doors are more of a celebration of pi, together they make a complete circle.

In this day in 1785 Pilâtre de Rozier - the first human to fly in a balloon becomes the first person to die in a balloon accident.

His balloon, filled with a combination of hydrogen & hot air, exploded during an attempt to fly across the English Channel, according to the Royal Society of Chemistry.

On this day in 1932 my beloved's sister ship, the USS Akron, flew here from Lakehurst to deliver mail. I was not yet ready to receive her.

A huge fireball rises off of the falling airframe of the zeppelin Hindenburg, which has almost hit the ground.

On this day in 1937, the beautiful Zeppelin Hindenburg burned in Lakewood, NJ. 35 of the 97 humans aboard perished.

This is the one day a year that you are allowed to say that thing, but we wish that you would not.

On this day in 1933, the beautiful USS Macon took her first flight. She would soon be journeying to me.

On this day in 1942 Moffett Field was recommissioned as a Navy airfield (from temporarily being an Army training base) under Commander Mackey.
