I've also found that female students are much more likely to take A Level Maths if they are simply told they can. I read an article years ago about explicitly telling girls they are good enough to do it and it seems to work.

We have found the biggest factor in our A Level Maths uptake is who the Y11 top set teachers are.

If students can form a relationship with their P16 teacher in Y11, they are much more likely to take it.

Obviously, not possible for all centres.

Why do schools put so many parent's evenings in January? It makes an already depressing month so much worse.

So this is how I get my wife interested in maths...

After a particularly festive weekend visiting the big man with the kids, it definitely feels like it should be the end of term. The next 2 weeks are going to be a struggle.

I find teaching exponentials is an excellent opportunity to work on their transformation skills. Get them sketching as many as possible with a variety of transformations.

That's ridiculous. How annoying.

Our oven clock hasn't been right in about 4 months. I keep meaning to do something about it. That and the microwave.

My wife's school have got a stop week this week so no briefings or meetings. Seems a great idea in the run up to Christmas.
