New Yorkers! Have you contacted your governor today!?!?!?

02.03.2026 17:51 β π 12 π 8 π¬ 0 π 0We oppose HR 7661. We want all of our kids & teens to have the freedom to be themselves, but certain politicians try to hold onto power by putting us in boxes based on what we look like, where weβre from, or what our genders are and fuel divisions for political gain. We are tired of these games.
02.03.2026 17:54 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Honored to be included in the keynote lineup at Thrive conference supporting democratic values! This week: app.smore.com/n/8u1mq
02.03.2026 17:06 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And a reminder - libraries are for EVERY one in our communities. We care very much about the families we serve. ππ
27.02.2026 20:48 β π 10 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0H.R. 7661 is an ill-written, ill thought out, prejudicial and ill-conceived bill that should not move out of committee. Contact House committee members below, especially if you are from any of those states! (CA, PA, CT, NC, OR and more).
27.02.2026 20:45 β π 13 π 5 π¬ 0 π 1As hard as we are fighting, book bans are having an impact on the books being written and published. To put this another way, a very small number of well-funded people who don't write books, don't teach books, don't work in libraries are trying to decide what books are available for everyone else

From our team here in Washington, THANK YOU to every ALA member and advocate who showed up #ForOurLibraries in DC this week for #NLLD26!
As you might have been able to tell, we were thrilled to welcome you to the District and support your advocacy in Congress. We can't wait to see you next year!
We believe in libraries as a cornerstone of our communities. From elementary school libraries exciting kids about reading to small rural public libraries who are the heart of learning in their towns, to bustling high school libraries, to academic centers in universities. Libraries rock.
27.02.2026 19:20 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We appreciate our nation's libraries!

ALAβs Lisa Varga - the leader of the @librarypolicy.bsky.social team - reminds us at #NLLD26 that we do not need all the answers to be effective advocates.
βYouβre already miles aheadβ as information professionals.
We know that our advocates are prepared and excited to make the case for libraries.
As a leader you must first lead yourself. This KQ article will help you do that.

We are so happy that students get to express who they are, especially in Katy ISD, which has pulled over 100 LGBTQ titles from their libraries, blaming it on new state laws like this one. Now let's do the rest of Texas! #FReadom

The definition of "harmful" is deliberately vague.
The burden on librarians is deliberately immense.
The chilling effect on reading, but also on publishing, author events, bookshops, and more is COMING.
The purpose of the laws is to give the State power to incarcerate anyone M*GA doesn't like.

Defending the Freedom to Read means showing up for these voices, supporting libraries and educators, and speaking out when access to stories is threatened. Because the right to read includes the right to read stories that some would rather avoid.
This Black History Month, we celebrate Black voices and reaffirm the Freedom to Read. Protecting access to these stories means protecting the right of every reader to learn, reflect, and think for themselves.

Despite the lawsuit filed last month against its state sanctioned book banning law, Utah banned another book from all public schools in the state on Friday.
That book? Bag of Bones by @stephenking.bsky.social. It's the 23rd such statewide ban.
bookriot.com/utah-bans-23...
The current book ban movement is, at its core, a movement to defund the public good.
The necessary bigotries were a feature of that, not a bug.
Even in a red state, the Supreme Court recognized that a librarian has the right to sue for defamation or damage to their reputation. Thanks to Amanda Jones for her continued courage.
