Lower Decks pals just reminded me I designed the original Moopsy, which I had totally forgotten. The artists love to laugh at me for my crappy drawings. Enjoy.

I should emphasize the part of that story that’s my favorite was Gore Vidal injecting gay subtext into BEN-HUR, not Charlton Heston’s shitty little attitude afterwards.

Proof that bullying people for using AI works and we should bully them as hard as possible.

Heston apparently called everyone involved with the film & told them to not participate with MGM. Total dick move on his part.

It wasn’t until 2004 that WB buried the hatchet & convinced Heston to record a commentary track for the DVD.

Wyler liked the idea… but only told Stephen Boyd, not Charlton Heston. They played the scene that way, & that subtext makes it delicious.

Years later when MGM was making the behind the scenes doc on the film, the bigoted Heston found out they’d interviewed Vidal 1st & subsequently fucked w the doc…

Have BEN-HUR on in the background while I’m working this afternoon and it reminded me of one of my favorite stories:

I just had a great idea for a new line of tie-in #StarTrek comics that Paramount could license:

New adaptions of the feature films, but using the original storyboards to make the story.

TMP would be a particularly gorgeous adaption. Had a lot of great artists drawing those boards in 1978

Stacks of DVDs and Blu-ray’s on a shelf.

In this house, we love ourselves some “big box o’ crap” special editions on DVD and Blu-ray.

I grew up on these streets.

I might have to do an essay called “The Straight Washing of Spock,” because people really don’t seem to understand the history of Kirk/Spock or its importance to sci-fi fandom. Roddenberry deliberately refused to define their sexuality, and Joanna Russ even argued that not knowing was the point—that in a better future, it wouldn’t matter. Making Spock explicitly straight in Strange New Worlds flattens all of that history.

I wish I was, but it just wasn’t in the cards this year. Maybe 2026 for the 60th anniversary!

turning Section 31 into cool antiheroes sucks so bad. DS9 used Section 31 to hammer in the contradictions of their utopia, to take a "necessary evil" and ask "if evil is necessary, then regardless of outcome, you're doing evil". They are worms hollowing the Federation from the inside out.
