At some point, we need to have a conversation about the fact that social media has gotten everyone so accustomed to performance and optics that we now judge actions based on how they'd look if a hypothetical audience were to view them in bad faith rather than whether they're actually good or bad

If you're mad or you don't have the patience or capacity or whatever right now, then that's fine, we've all been through a lot, but stop kneecapping the people who are ready and trying to help. Just keep the snide tweet in the drafts.

I think anybody who lived under the firehose of misinformation that they live under would act this way. This happens with other cults - everybody believes that a cult would never work on them, until one day it does.

These people should be embraced and deprogrammed. It's the only path out of this.

I'm finding it easier and easier to hate MAGA leadership, and harder and harder to hate MAGA citizens.

I'm angry with them for voting to destroy our country. I think they're responsible for their actions. But I don't they're unfixable or somehow evil to their core.

It's satisfying, in a way, to believe half the country is just evil racists, because it makes the problem seem simple and digestible (in the same way conspiracy theories are satisfying), but I think most people want the right thing to happen and are simply lied to by a constant stream of lies.

I have to say, as this has all gone on, I think my view on the MAGA crowd has evolved a lot, and I really do see it as a true cult.

I've had a lot of conversations with people where I live about their experience of leaving it, and I think we underestimate how insulated they are from the truth.

I think a lotta people who live in cities don't realize how spotty internet access can get out in rural areas. Imagine if your entire information pipeline was Fox News or other propaganda outlets, with no reliable way to fact check what they're telling you.

To clarify, in case one of my friends see this and is like "???", obviously I do have ABDL friends and I like them a lot - I just mean this in terms of how I interact w/ the community broadly. I get kinda uncomfortable if I'm not a little unapproachable and insulated.

A big part of why I can be pretty unabashedly and honestly horny and open about what I'm into is that you guys only exist in my phone. But that's pretty at odds with the desire to have and maintain ABDL friends! Tough circle to square

You know, it's weird - I always enjoy having ABDL friends, it's nice having people I can "take the mask off" around, but I think I also feel a pretty strong urge to keep the community at arm's length. I like posting to it, but I also like being able to set it down and disengage when I want to.

I gotta find some like "small enough to actually meet people and interact" servers that aren't just like, people's friend group server that I'm crashing lol, 'cause I've sorta had my fill of those experiences.

I had a medium-small ABDL gaming Discord I was keeping up with, but my Twitter kinda took off around the time I launched it, and I didn't know how to keep it open and receiving new people w/o it getting swamped or brigaded, and it sort of fell out of use.

I'd like to check out more ABDL Discord servers, but am afraid of A) minors on servers that aren't well-moderated and B) getting a bunch of DMs and unwanted engagement from people looking for a caretaker.

I feel like making a group server for your friends and then hanging out with half those friends in a cliquey little side server for the "real" friends is one of the most embarrassing things I see adults do. Just some real highschooler behavior.

Oddly enough, had a very similar thing happen a couple months ago. Some people are just profoundly selfish, and are willing to use you as a security blanket until they feel they don't need one anymore. Hope you know it doesn't reflect on you guys at all, it reflects on them.

I made a pact with myself at the start of this year to stop caretaking for friends for this reason, but it still kinda sucks to like, have to, and I still bump into people in social situations and gatherings that dredge up old weirdness and hurt feelings and it is not great!! Vent complete.

Been a while since I broke out the whining account, but man, sometimes being a caretaker is such a meatgrinder. People show up and get close to you and you get close back, there's a real parental, caring vibe, it gets intimate, and then they hop to the next caretaker and you're like "Oh, okay"
