I know this is a joke but I do actually think it's possible to take cognitive damage from looking at AI slop. Even more so the video stuff.

The whole concept of a "spoiler" is that it's impossible to unsee/unhear something. I think AI video slop is probably a spoiler for cognition.

I know it's a kneejerk emotional response to protect yourself from feeling foolish, or to insist you have control over your circumstances that you feel you may not have, but it's a coping mechanism that masks your vulnerabilities from yourself and shames those for lacking foresight they can't have

the implication that those who were duped were less capable/intelligent to surmise someone's true nature at the start is the ugliest part of it, for me.

but also, it's pure hubris to go through the world thinking you're infallible or un-gettable, there's no bigger blind spot than that.

This bothers me more and more as I get older. It is so normal to change our minds when we encounter new information. Everyone’s so scared of being a little embarrassed at not knowing, but it’s fine and normal to not know everything.

patrons are literally the only viable options creators have to survive right now. literally. myself included. and we're punished for panhandling, essentially.

sponsoring artist for the art they want to make, not for the art they CAN make for YOU, has to be normalized and encouraged.

in the world of web 2.0 trying & failing to evolve into web 3.0, creators have no funding. gAI made freelancing impossible, private equity has strangled media industries into hemmoraghing labor, and people only pay for art if it's a service since the idea of sponsoring art is "well what do I get?"

I get the sentiment but equating independent creators trying to sustain financial support in the same breath as the enshittification web 2.0 corporate feudalism is ghoulish

should be worth pointing out creators often offer their work nearly completely free, subscription models are for bonus perks
