Opinion | Why Even Basic A.I. Use Is So Bad for Students

I love to see stuff like this because it helps explain to people trapped in tech-sponsored information bubbles the actually obvious fact that universities teach people to know & think things, and AI is a way to produce the effect of knowing & thinking things w/o actually knowing & thinking them.

Amazon is helping fund a $300 million build of a ballroom for the White House.

Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

They are not the same.

This flyer announces a free farmers market at Loring Greenough House in Jamaica Plain (12 South Street) for people who lost SNAP benefits due to a government shutdown. The market offers:

Free fresh produce and bread (grown by Allandale Farm, bread from Iggy's)
Thursdays, 11AM - 1PM
Dates: November 6, 13, 20

This is a mutual aid initiative providing food support during a period when SNAP benefits have been disrupted. Jamaica Plain has a strong history of community organizing and mutual aid networks.

If you’re worried about the food people get with SNAP, wait until you see the private jets and yachts billionaires get with Trump’s tax breaks.

One would think it would give journalists at the NYT, CBS, and CNN pause that Teen Vogue & People Magazine offer better coverage of political news these days, but 🤷‍♂️

…the NYPD, FDNY, DSNY, libraries, schools, beaches, bridges, roads, parks, sewer and transit systems?

Some are mad because people are on SNAP and not working.

I’m mad because people are on SNAP even though they are working.

When people glorify ‘Tough On Crime’ they are just saying that they are gleefully punitive & nothing more.

Being tough on crime isn’t the same as addressing crime. We know that the largest predictor for reducing crime is addressing need.

Reducing benefits increases crime, endangering everyone.

There are laws about how to interdict suspected criminals on the high seas.

There are laws about how to renovate federal buildings.

There are laws about how not to monetize the presidency.

There are laws. We should enforce them. And not normalize the flagrant violation of them in the newspapers.

There's a world where a president whose term overlaps with the 250th anniversary of independence announces that he wants a WH extension to celebrate. He goes to Congress and gets bipartisan buy-in. Maybe it's part of other big 250th projects with public-private funding. And it's popular. (1/2)

I note that the Roman Emperor Vespasian made himself immensely popular by completely burying Nero's Golden Palace and building the Colosseum and public gardens on top of it. He was also known for being able to laugh at himself.
