STATEMENT ON DISTRICT 5 PRIMARY (1/2): Thank you to the voters of Alexandria for choosing me as the Democratic nominee for the House of Delegates in District 5. It would be an incredible honor to fight for our community and its values in Richmond. Should I win on February 10, I look forward to working to address our housing crisis, the challenge of climate change, and the damaging impacts of the Trump Administration on the immigrant families, LGBTQ+ Virginians, and Federal employees who call Alexandria home. More than 20 years ago, Adam Ebbin made history by becoming the first openly-gay person elected to Virginia's House of Delegates. I am excited to have this opportunity to continue his legacy of LGBTQ+ representation from Alexandria. As I have on the City Council, I will always stand strong for the rights and freedoms of LGBTQ+ people. I look forward to campaigning to ensure that my marriage to my husband Jason, and the marriages of thousands of other LGBTQ+ couples across Virginia, are protected by our Commonwealth's Constitution.

STATEMENT ON DISTRICT 5 PRIMARY (2/2): Thank you to Eileen Cassidy Rivera, Chris Leibig, and Greg Darralls for their efforts during this campaign and their service to our community. I have known Eileen and Chris for years. Eileen's work on behalf of Alexandria's schools, and Chris's commitment to civil rights and criminal justice reform are inspiring. Though I just met Greg yesterday, I appreciate his willingness to step forward to serve. I have loved serving Alexandria on our City Council. Though joining the House of Delegates would mean no longer serving with Mayor Gaskins, Vice Mayor Bagley, my Council colleagues or our talented City staff in that capacity, I know that we will continue to work together to address our City's challenges and build a brighter future for its residents.

Last night's primary victory sets the stage for a February 10 special election. I hope that I can win your support to be our next Delegate in Richmond!
