Its mostly because there is already a Bournemouth FC(Wessex League) in the town so they couldn't use the name.

They opted to become AFC Bournemouth to look more continental and adopted the AC Milan red/black home and Inter Blue/Black away for kits.
A bit niche for the youngsters, but absolutely excellent!
