When you're making something new/experimental, there's some incentive to handhold players through it because you can't expect semi-committed people to stick with your game if they misunderstand what you're trying to do. but Metroid Prime 4 is not that. it is literally the fourth one they've made.

what's interesting about this handholding stuff is that AAA games actually have the MOST affordance to cut those features. People will buy the new Metroid and try to push through it because it's a fucking Metroid game and they want to be Samus. They won't drop it the second something confuses them.

i mean the player character does make a little yummy noise and rub their belly so we can assume they taste GOOD. i was just hoping for more detail

i haven't played the outer wilds DLC. do they ever clarify what nomai taste like? was really disappointed when i selected the "bite" dialog prompt on the quantum moon and it just cut to solanum's half-eaten corpse on the ground with no description of the actual process.

Having tried both FMOD > Unity and Wwise > Unity I think FMOD feels easier to integrate, particularly in a team setting, but YMMV depending on how much experience you have with either middleware.

imo a mistake: S is the most popular letter, you gotta save it for the end bit to build anticipation. if we lead with S, we'll satisfy the audience too early and they'll leave while sitting through the boring letters like L, M, and N.

Removing the monetization aspect of gambling / corrosive F2P mechanics / etc doesn't actually address the harm those types of games do, and the resultant "dopamine games" being the default engagement of choice for wide swaths of the populace is a condemnation of our way of life

Been working on a more advanced enemy. This guy plays footsies with the player - closing the gap if they get too far, and backstepping if the player pushes into their space.

The Patterson Park observatory, a tower similar to the one in the left of the Blackbird pic, but with a much wider roof.

The Bromo-Seltzer tower, a similar clock-face tower to the one in the Blackbird pic but with a crenellated top instead of a pointed one.

The Baltimore World Trade Center, a tan skyscraper in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The version in the Blackbird pic is similarly-shaped except at the top, where it comes to a point.

If you're local to the Baltimore area (which is where these devs are located), another tell is that it's clearly based on specific landmarks, but with obvious wrong details.

Twitter screenshot. Quinton Reviews posts a summary of Ellis' 2021 plagiarism drama, where he stole a comic from another webcomic artist and then made a fake comic to try and "prove" that he had the idea first.

Prolific Pen Comics shows Ellis' comic side by side with their comic. It's obviously the same idea.

Ellis posts a screenshot of a blog post dated Dec. 6 2012. This has a comic with the same structure.

Ellis's actual blog post on Dec. 6 2012 was completely different, and also shows off his art style at the time, which is nothing like the one shown in the fake comic.

this is not the first time he's done this.
