Time's running out in Antarctica, and we have a choice on our hands: a future that protects this unique and precious environment or one that sees it change forever.

Hats off to @iceybethan.bsky.social for leading the work this is based on (link below)

Carlo Buontempo, Director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) @ECMWF emphasises how the global average temperature exceeded 1.5Β°C over a three-year period (2023–2025) – the first time in the #ERA5 record – bringing us closer to the Paris Agreement threshold.

Fixing a hole in a house’s roof will come with a cost, an expenditure that is likely to have sticker shock.
BUT! It’s much cheaper than not fixing the hole in the roof.

Truly wild that the Sun, Daily Mail, Daily Express & Daily Telegraph all covered false claims that net-zero will "cost" Β£7.6bn – or even Β£9tn – which assumes we could have free gas, free petrol, free petrol cars & free gas power plants if we scrapped net-zero

It's a myth that Net Zero will cost us. What will *really* cost us is climate heating.

Heatwaves cost lives, floods and storms cost millions in property damage, wildfires and droughts cost our environment.

Cost of climate inaction >> cost of action.

Acting now = an investment in the future.

Carbon offsets give big polluters a get-out-of-jail-free card on climate change. And although there are *some* high-quality offsets out there, there's a helluva lotta junk.

I made a deep-dive video on the wild west of offsetting. Took me bloody ages so check it out pls πŸ˜…

Line graph time series of 2025's daily Arctic sea ice extent compared to decadal averages from the 1980s to the 2010s. The decadal averages are shown with different colored lines with purple for the 1980s, blue for the 1990s, green for the 2000s, and white for the 2010s. Thin white lines are also shown for each year from 2000 to 2024. 2025 is shown with a thick gold line, which is currently a record low for the current date. There is a long-term decreasing trend in ice extent for every day of the year shown on this graph between October and January by looking at the decadal average line positions.

It's simple: there is no way we can have a safe, liveable climate and expand London's airport capacity.
