It seems the only difference between a bribe and a reward is that the second is not prosecuted. Misuse of public funds goes unnoticed when you own the levers of power.

Even the thickest trunks eventually turn to humus. But until then, they are a haven of life.

Lucky to have @arnkeeling.bsky.social on Bsky :)

Excellent review from Ron Versus below:

That's a very impressive Ghost Dance shirt with Thunderbird motif! At the pinnacle of so much change, and so many new friends, experiences, and new "global" networks between Tribes. A world literally bursting at the seams! The performances “... stirred me like a war song” (wrote Twain).

"... these people believe that ‘intelligence’ is the key to solving all problems ...”

Weber called this the “Iron Cage” of reason, and warned us long ago of the risks of measuring progress in utility and not meaning, values, and worldview. Clearly, "enchantment" can take many forms/many impacts.

I stayed with a regular race participant, Cor Guimond, in the 90s and took care of his dogs when he went to Dawson for supplies. We also built a fish wheel. New route is needed and I hope it comes back!

Public lectures from Oxford to wile away the time (and break media habit). Current series is from @petermandler.bsky.social on social science discourses and histories in 20c Britain.

2021 lectures on Ireland, empire, and early modern world looks particularly interesting 2 me. Enjoy!
