Researching requires Ideas, which you generate by Exploring—and Exploring means running scenes with other players and NPCs, spinning drama out of rumors, making allies, and foiling your rivals.
Though Theses throw dramatic wrenches into play, that's the basic wheel that turns the game.

Got more example classes here. I like the way they network to make sparse evocative worldbuilding that is specific while leaving space for interpretation. When I say dark souls is an inspiration this is what I mean. Archological storytelling, not reams and reams of lore.

Example: Zharic (he/they; trans masculine); concept: a run-down now-exiled prince of shadows who's a rather wet cat of a man aching to prove himself
