i appreciate everyone for sharing the AI art scam warning, especially those that aren’t visual artists as well

i’m glad we’re all coming together like the Avengers to say that AI is mega garbage and we’re not going to tolerate it, especially when it messes with someone’s money

there’s a fan artist i follow that adds hidden Gumball and Darwin from The Amazing World of Gumball as a watermark, which is both the funniest and most efficient anti-AI thing i’ve seen

generate them a 4 piece combo meal, no sides no drinks no sauce no nothing just 4 knuckle sandwiches to the jaw ( + delivery fee )

This is a good way to get somebody to generate you a knuckle sammich.

i do feel bad for always having my posts restricted because i don’t want to shut others out of conversations, but i do really want to lessen the potential of a bot in my replies / DMs again. so that’s why i keep my QRTs open

i’m petty enough where i’ve set my phone up to point directly at my monitor while i was working and record my lineart process, it’s honestly so annoying having to jump through hoops over stuff like this

one more note: i’m using that post as an example of how this scam goes. i’ve seen it happens to others so i just wanted to have a more recent example to use to help explain what’s going on if that makes sense

that i can agree with. whenever i take a commission proper, i move it off of Twitter / Bluesky. if it’s an art trade, i don’t mind keeping it here because i only DM mutuals and it’s easier to call out foul play (if needed) when there’s no money moving hands

just an addition to reiterate: i’ve seen some claim that this is harder to pull off on VGen and Skeb, so if you have either of those accounts then it’d be easier to prove your case

PayPal seems to be the finicky one that scammers usually try to target because it’s harder to prove on your end

In this hellscape world, you gotta make sure there's existing evidence you did your work yourself if you can

Timelapses, stream to friends who can corroborate, stream publicly.
Heck, export the initial posing sketches and thumbnails, or show PSDs if you draw on a potato PC

from what i’ve seen, it winds up being a combo of “free sketch so i can get the AI to finish the work” and (at least in this case) if it’s a payment done through PayPal you can get the artist’s account restricted for a period of time

it’s nasty

Honestly I would also suggest using contracts, even ones spelled out in plain language, that require payment or half payment up front, and that you will not refund the initial deposit.
