I think a common path is changing fields? (Not fully, but substantially).

A new study comparing four flu vaccines found that vaccine protection varied by age. Researchers say these findings could guide vaccine recommendations, especially for older adults, as we enter flu season. Read more in #AAINews: https://ow.ly/BKWU50XqEXr.

When people celebrate the individual genius of folks in science, they should also
mourn the collective loss of genius of folks who were actively discouraged or disadvantaged from a career in science because of the same person(s)

One of my main concerns is the consequences of the mutual feedback spiral retraining of thinking.... how much will humans and AI "accommodate" their logic and thinking in pursuit of efficiency? I think we all should be aware of this, and actively guide the process.

A very interesting thread! Thanks for sharing. In a way, will it imply that experts doing the final (human) review will have to be "better experts" and/or more trained to use their skills in complement with what the AI side does?

Medical Research Funding: Timeline β€” Unbreaking How the administration is breaking the government, and what that means for all of us.

It’s out! Over the past few months, my colleagues and I at @unbreaking.org have been working to document the political, legal, and economic maneuvers the US administration has used to undermine medical research funding. We hope you’ll find it useful!

I'd say paper rejections, because you (and your whole team) have already invested a lot (resources AND emotions), and grants largely depend ultimately on them too. But it becomes a bit of a chicken-egg conundrum.

Can’t pronounce an ingredient?
So what? A chemical name: ZERO to do with potential harm or safety.

Vitamin C, also called:

(5R)-[(1S)-1,2-Dihydroxyethyl]-3,4-dihydroxyfuran-2(5H)-one

Chemistry naming rules = info about structure & function. That’s it.

I think people adjacent to science (but who now find themselves deciding the fate of US science somehow) undervalue humility, valuing braggadocios hubris instead.
Yes it’s true that some scientific discoveries are complete paradigm changers, and we celebrate these. 1/
