I wasn’t offended, I need to change my profile pic 🤣 I use art like a lot of people use drugs, to get through life.

I think it’s weird that the two best men I’ve ever known committed suicide by hanging and I hope they did it in such a way that they didn’t suffer.

Aye, but may I say something about art?

That's a long fucking drive.

It took a good hour or two in the morning to get my mom looking the way she wanted to before church, and we had to work together to create this "normal looking woman" for YEARS before she couldn't even drive to church, which was only 15 minutes away, but when you're body is fighting you?

My dearest, I can blame the British Empire for so much suffering with FACTS.

So when people accuse me of being conservative, right-wing, or something other than "no one SHOULD EVER have to suffer through that, EVER" as my political stance? I get more than a little incensed.

Don't get me wrong, my dad wasn't a bad guy, my sister just hated the fact that mom was dying and couldn't hang, so I had a lot of work to do. All things come together. It hurt. It sucked. Not a fan.

My mother fought cancer for a decade, on and off. Chemotherapy will take your hair, your weight, and your ability to just do things. So I had to learn how to do her makeup when her hands stopped working.

I'm asking people to respect the labor that goes into every kind of art. If you are still reading this thread? It's time to talk about cancer.

Why would anyone expect an acknowledgment of exceptional skill to be considered a "compliment," exactly? Walk up to Michaelangleo and be all "Wow, that's a really good painting!" and then expect some sort of acknowledgment of the fact you have EYES? I am NOT comparing myself to Michelangelo,

And thus we come to a revelation I had about women and feminism. When a man compliments a woman and she says, "Thank you, I put a lot of time into looking hot," and the man loses his fucking mind about it? It's like that. I know what I'm good at. I've been doing it for years.

Fast forward to 2023, I wrote something, and someone who I thought was a friend complimented me on it in the most back-handed, crappy way imaginable I responded with "yeah, I know what I'm doing, my writing is good." and they responded with "don't break your arm patting yourself on the back!"

(My penmanship at the time was WAY better, and I used like seven of those papers where your cursive has a framework work so...yeah look, it was a good school okay?)

Next day, she said it was amazing, it was above and beyond, and very good writing. But what she DID NOT DO was use isolating language; she didn't compel the other students to do better because they were bad; she just said I went above and beyond. She put it in a wee book for the other kids to read

I was writing a story about a tom Turkey who, by way of feathers and wood, faked his own death so he wouldn't get eaten on Thanksgiving. I turned it in at the end of class - this was three pages, double-sided, handwritten. Mrs. Watson just let me run with it.

Fourth Grade, Mary Lou Watson's English Class, 1992 — "Today we're going to write a short story about Thanksgiving." I am ten years old. Now, everyone gets done pretty fast. But I wasn't quite done yet, so I asked for more time. Mrs. Watson graciously let me keep going.

Taylor Swift’s aggressive marketing guarantees success – no matter what the music sounds like I am one of many researchers exploring the social science of Taylor Swift’s success.

Whatever you think of Taylor Swift’s new album ‘The Life of a Showgirl’, its marketing all but guarantees its success.

When all you have is a hammer every problem looks like a nail. When all you have is a wall every approach looks like a siege.

Just reading some old poems and it looks like homoeroticism of either type predates homophobia by 2,000 years. When did they say we were not worthy? It. Feels recent.

Oh this is why teenagers stare at me blankly when I know what words mean but also what their use of words mean and. I need to get my suits dry cleaned and pour some liquid Plumr down my bathtub drain just in case this gets worse.

Your learning speed is determined by your willingness to look stupid.
The faster you're willing to be wrong, the faster you'll be right. Pride slows learning.
Humility accelerates it. Be willing to be the dumbest person in the room. That's where growth lives.

This quote struck me as another way they try to sell the world on AI and maybe why they let AI be so stupid. That way you are never wrong, you are never stupid, you are never embarrassed. A scapegoat for every human failing, no matter how small.

Catching up with some of the Beltway contractor crowd, and one of them said "If shutdowns stopped defense contractors from making money, there wouldn't be shutdowns."

When did Clark start wearing the glasses? Because *anyone* from Smallville would be all "is that KENT's kid?!" on the TV. I really don't buy Clark getting bullied in HS because he was just a wholesome dude. "You fuck with Kent, you fuck with all of us," and Clark's all "it's okay!"

Legit thought this came attached to junk of concrete, and thought “that’s not very compact” and if ever there was an opportunity to use a visual language some sort of variation on “Banana for scale” would have nailed it.
