People are throwing bottles of lentils and rice into the sea in Egypt to try to help Gazans. And Canada keeps giving Israel weapons. Declaring Palestinian statehood is not enough. We need to do more.

I was always so aware of protecting my baby, and so worried what the lack of nutrients were doing to her. In the end, she was OK. But I know I would have died of grief if I had had to watch any of my children suffer this.

Starvation HURTS. Through your entire body. You ache. Your stomach stops hurting, but your muscles and bones and skin hurt as they are broken down to feed your organs. It's also exhausting. Staying awake can be a challenge.

My third pregnancy, I had #hyperemesis so badly I lost 20+ lbs while pregnant. I was being kept alive by IV fluids. I kept down food once a week. I was in Level 3 starvation (muscle breakdown) for about three months, and may have been early Level 4. Many people in Gaza are at Level 5, near death.

Like most folks in North America, I am no expert about the genocide in Gaza. (Do you need to be to care and scream our opposition? I digress.)
But I know hunger the way few people on this continent do. I survived a "starvation-level event" 19 years ago.

As I reflect on Canada's collective amnesia about the Air India murders, I'm struck by the parallels to the forgetting/ not knowing of the #2021HeatDome disaster that is my current focus (OK, obsession. I'll own it.) What's the connection in my mind? Who we choose to value in this country.

If you have Dysautonomia be extra cautious as we don’t regulate temperature properly!

The response of the UK government is similar to what we were told in BC during the #2021HeatDome — stay out of the sun, drink cool liquids, go to a cooling centre. At least 619 people died in 2021's heat event. This advice is laughable. The vast majority of death happened indoors in 2021.

Experts say all disasters are human-caused in the end, typically by poor planning. The scientists are doing their part. They now can warn us in advance of both the weather and the predicted death toll. www.imperial.ac.uk/grantham/pub...
