BCβs security depends on the #ClimateResilience of #CriticalInfrastructure like roads, electrical grids and telecom systems.
Our new resources outline gaps holding resilience back & trace pathways to shift from reactive recovery to coordinated planning.

I think it's best for everyone to understand that the unified class project of billionaires right now is to do to white collar workers what globalization and neoliberalism did to blue collar workers.

Save our snow - ban Olympic fossil fuel ads
The Winter Olympics killed tobacco sponsorship - can it do the same for fossil fuels?
This article revisits how physician advocacy and athlete leadership helped end tobacco sponsorship at the Winter Olympics in the 1980s. Now we're calling for the same action on fossil fuel advertising.

Good #ClimateSolutions often solve multiple problems, & widespread rooftop solar is a fantastic example. It solves on the #mitigation front by reducing the need to burn carbon-based fuel for generation. And it solves on the #adaptation front by allowing people to continue to cool their homes.

Record heatwave no match for solar-soaked power grid
Energy demand reached its highest level on record on Wednesday during this weekβs heatwave, but rooftop solar has taken the stress off.
#ExtremeHeat can cause power outages as generation equipment & the grid struggle from the load of cooling tech like AC plus the effect of heat on its components. But this time, Australia made more electricity than ever & met the increased power demand. Why? Rooftop solar. www.afr.com/policy/energ...

$2000 a month or a year will only cover healthcare for the most healthy in society.
It wonβt cover disabled or chronically ill people
It wonβt cover those in poverty
It wonβt cover catastrophic illness
What happens to them?
They die.
This isnβt a healthcare plan. Itβs an elimination strategy.

So for me, there is never any point to do the short, local trip, even outside the commute, by bus. It is done in the car, on bike, or by foot. And I LOVE transit. Until the dearth of frequent neighbourhood transit is solved in medium cities, people will drive.

For context: I can bike from my door to my office in 45-55 minutes on my e-bike. It takes me longer to travel an extra 5 km by bus than to e-cycle the whole trip. And I am slow and disabled!

Getting to the transit hub from my house, a 9-minute drive in rush hour traffic, adds 60 minutes to my commute if I try to do the whole thing by bus. The local loop bus comes so infrequently it is essentially impossible to use it for short trips or connecting to the hub.

Mine is a great example. I live in a suburb of Victoria, BC. I work at the local university and traverse the whole city, basically, to commute to work. I do 80% of that trip by bus when not cycling. The problem is the first 20%.

The short trip conundrum in medium-sized Canadian cities: a thread.
Brentβs point is great. But in medium-sized Canadian cities, transit ITSELF is often designed for cross-city trips almost exclusively.
