10. Oculus (2013): I like how tricky this movie is structurally; moving between multiple timelines and then also between reality and what the mirror shows, and with an inevitable ending foreshadowed by how it started. Also that lightbulb scene? Pure suspense. #31HorrorFilms31Days

9. Strange Harvest (2024): The true crime mockumemtary style of this horror movie almost worked too well for me, in that I started to zone out like I always do for documentaries. Cool idea, okay execution, dry and not scary like I had hoped. #31HorrorFilms31Days

8. I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025): I don’t know why this got a remake/reboot but I enjoyed it for the semi-predictable slasher it is. Sarah Michelle Gellar’s cameo was the best part. #31HorrorFilms31Days

7. House on Eden (2025): I love found footage horror, no matter how basic, and we all know it can be hard to make it seem natural to always be filming, but this one stretched credulity to an unforgivable degree. Found footage can be artful, but basic can be good. This was not. #31HorrorFilms31Days

6. Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight (1995): It’s zany, it’s cartoonish, it’s got great practical effects, and great performances from everybody. I’m pretty sure I had a crush on Billy Zane and Jada Pinkett Smith when I saw this in the 90s. #31HorrorFilms31Days

5. Awoken (2019): I’m so behind in posting. I’ve always had trouble sleeping and had terrible nightmares as a kid so I’m drawn to sleep study horror. This one was okay; some decent scares if you can ignore all the plot holes and how it definitely fell apart at the end. #31HorrorFilms31Days

4. 28 Days Later (2002): A rewatch in preparation for 28 Years Later. It’s been a long time since my first watch in the theater, when I remember exiting with an upset stomach because I’d been so tense for the whole runtime. Absolutely a zombie classic. #31HorrorFilms31Days

I’ve been avoiding Bring Her Back even though everyone is praising it, because it sounds like a hard watch. Maybe when I’m in the right mood…

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen that one. Maybe time for a rewatch!

3. Until Dawn (2025): This made me mad. Why say this is a retelling of the video game and title it that way, when it isn’t ANYTHING like the game? This is more Dead By Daylight (minus generators) than Until Dawn. Whatever. The part where they all explode was the best part. #31HorrorFilms31Days

1. Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched (2021): This is a smart, engaging, comprehensive study of folk horror across cultures. It’s super long so it makes for a good watch while crocheting, which is what I wanted on my day off Wednesday. #31HorrorFilms31Days

I just checked out the third book in the series. I hope the movie gets at least one sequel.
