This image is a snapshot of a panoramic photo captured by the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover within Gale crater, Mars. In the foreground dark rocky hills are seen sloping down from left to right. Beyond those hills is the crater floor, with is dotted with occasional smaller hills and craters. In the distance the steep crater walls stretch across the image.
Strongly recommend going to photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/catalog/PIA2..., opening the Full-Res JPEG in your browser, zooming in, and spending a mindful martian minute scrolling across Gale crater #Mars #CuriosityRover #NASA #JPL

A deep image of interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS captured by the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph (GMOS) on Gemini South at Cerro PachΓ³n in Chile, one half of the International Gemini Observatory, partly funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and operated by NSF NOIRLab. The image shows the cometβs broad coma β a cloud of gas and dust that forms around the cometβs icy nucleus as it gets closer to the Sun β and a tail spanning about 1/120th of a degree in the sky (where one degree is about the width of a pinky finger on an outstretched arm) and pointing away from the Sun. 3I/ATLAS is only the third confirmed interstellar visitor to our Solar System.
The exposures tracked the comet as it traveled across the sky, and the final image is composed to freeze the stars in place during the observation. Two small colored trails from unrelated asteroids with a different motion from that of the comet can also be seen.
These observations of Comet 3I/ATLAS were conducted during a Shadow the Scientists program hosted by NSF NOIRLab.

A black and white mosaic of images from Mars. A distant hazy horizon is punctuated by a white mount and various layered hills and butted. At the bottom is the rear of the Curiosity Mars rover - a gray cylindrical antenna is next to a white finned RTG.
The engineering side of our mission rarely gets told....but we're pushing to turn every heckin' joule of that RTG into pure distilled awesomeness. Thanks to @abbyfrae.bsky.social for the postcard idea. I had a LOT of fun sequencing and then processing it :) www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/marking...

Working at NASA is a dream for many around the country and even the world. Positions don't just get created. They are extremely rare and highly competitive. The folks that get them are _the_ best at what they do. What do they do? 1/6
