Not one mention of trans men in this article. I find it interesting that Su Wong says that sport is already inclusive as biological women can play in women’s sport and everyone else can play in men’s sport. Don’t trans men have to play in women’s sport, due to them being assigned female at birth?

A fantastic article about recent elections and how different approaches have benefited different candidates. Fantastic mostly because the writing is sublime. I’ll be using this to teach my Masters students how to write a compelling and well-researched article! Bravo @benansell.bsky.social

Your New Lunch Habit Is Hurting the Economy More people are bringing lunch to work and restaurants are selling fewer lunches than they did in 2020

This cuts like a knife for those of us who reached a point in our lives where we could afford to buy lunch (pre-pandemic) who are now packing lunch again. I’m 46 and have never had less disposable income. This is the UK, not just the US. Sharing link to original article: www.wsj.com/business/mor...

One couple at a voting station in Port Credit said they would rather not speak to American media.
They then apologized three times.

This is outrageous. I am shocked that this would happen in Canada. Public services and their representatives should be non-partisan, leaving individuals to vote how they wish. Imagine how uncomfortable some police officers are now (in addition to how uncomfortable the public is) 😒

There appear to be two stories here. 1) People not voting 2) Candidates winning the popular vote but not the presidential election. The second could have been solved years ago by changing the voting system to one that reflects how people actually voted.

This is what happens when people start to think government needs to turn a profit. Libraries are not businesses. Public parks are not businesses. Fire departments are not businesses. Health care should not be a business, either.

Following the UK Supreme Court ruling, someone I know posted β€˜Of course! Men can’t bear children, don’t have a womb, uterus or ovaries!’. It’s scary that we are being reduced to baby-making machines again, especially when it’s by other women 😒 Sad for ALL women right now ❀️

That’s a hard read for anyone (like me) who has loved America for pretty much all of their life. As a teenager through the tv and movie screen, in my twenties as an exchange student and a working holiday maker, in my thirties marrying in Vegas and in my forties last year completing Route 66… 😒

Thank you, Mind. It felt really heavy. I am so sad and angry about how this will affect trans people. Keep up your brilliant work supporting everyone ❀️

The best solutions are external single door bathrooms inside (like a row of disabled toilets) so it’s one person in a single space, and where it’s an outside block, it is one door per cubicle in the same arrangement, so you don’t have to share space with anyone if you don’t want to :)

Being from the UK, I am always freaked out when using stalls in USA/Canada. It’s so weird having gaps around you when using the bathroom!

02.04.2025 16:39 β€” πŸ‘ 9    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes. Here in the UK we have been moving in that direction. When I was working for local government in 2012 our teams were replacing all M/F toilet blocks with single cubicles. This isn’t about gender, it’s about safety and dignity for everyone. Single cubicles reduce assault for EVERYONE ❀️

Quakers condemn police raid on Westminster Meeting House Police broke into a Quaker Meeting House last night (27 March) and arrested six young people holding a meeting over concerns for the climate and Gaza.

You think the arbitrary arrest of political dissenters cannot happen in the UK? It already does. www.quaker.org.uk/news-and-eve...

The RHS are spineless and should have β€˜Royal’ removed from their name. They are doing nothing to take a stand on environmental issues despite having a massive platform. Compare them with organisations like the National Trust who consistently work to enhance biodiversity on their estates. Pathetic.

No you’re not daft. It is worrying. There are precautions people have mentioned: shutting down your social media before you apply for your ESTA and again before you travel is not a bad idea. Take a burner phone with you and memorise a useful phone number in case you need it ❀️

Thanks for sharing. The article makes some great points. In addition, AI is making things that took less time with brainpower take longer. Like the way some of my students choose to write using AI tools. I keep telling them it would be quicker to just use their brains and write…

That must be disappointing, Lindsay. But sadly it is true. Academics (perhaps even more so than others) are not setting foot in the USA till all this is over. If it helps, we are really sad that it’s come to this ☹️
