Just...if you have a beloved pet in your life, even if they're young, hold them close and love them and take advantage of the present time you have. Life is unfair and no amount of time is guaranteed. And in the end, you'll always wish you had more time. No amount is ever enough, anyway.

I'm just glad that I had the chance to prepare a little and save things properly, something I learned following Jackson's passing. Memorializing is part of how I cope and grieve, and that part has at least felt a little less difficult this time.

I did manage to order another memorial pendant for Ezra very similar to Jackson's so I can add it to my necklace. And I did remember to save a little of his fur so I could place that inside the new pendant, that way I can keep them both close whenever I'm away from home.

Thank you to everyone for your kind replies about Ezra. I'm going to try to reply to at least a few if I can, but I'm still struggling right now and trying to focus on self-care and caring for our other pets. His loss is such a gut punch because he was only 5 years old and I'll never be over that.

it is not that poor people don’t know that cooking is cheaper:

cooking costs time. it costs pots and pans. it costs a working stove and your utilities on. it costs you’ve been on your feet all day and your babies are tired.

So we are going to let him go quietly, in dignity and comfort. And we'll be with him as it happens and will have him cremated so he can return home where he belongs and will always be loved and remembered.

I love him so damn much. But his frustration with the tube and the medication and the weekly vet visits was clear. To put him through potential blood transfusions, chemo, or whatever else it took just to keep him alive seemed wrong.

He'd already been through a lot, and at some point, one has to decide what is cruelty and what is mercy. Ezra was a vibrant, active cat who was always into everything. To be hobbled with ongoing medical treatment and a feeding tube would have forced him to have a fraction of the life he deserved.

Had we pursued aggressive treatment, he would have gone back to the ICU for more fluids and another feeding tube, which he hated. He would have needed a bone marrow biopsy, and had the issue turned out to be cancer, he likely would have needed chemo.

We'll never know the reason why, but his bone marrow was not properly producing red blood cells to replace those that were lost to the infection. The medication helped to stabilize him somewhat, but he never managed to regain normal levels.

I wish I didn't have to be at work tonight. I wish I could be at home with Ezra, to love on him and comfort him before our last trip to the vet in the morning. At least Sorey and Sapphire are with him. At least he should have one last quiet night to rest in a familiar place.

Thanks. We really thought for a little while there that he would be okay, but something deeper was wrong with his body and to continuously subject him to hospitalization and everything else...it didn't seem right. He doesn't deserve so much pain just to exist and not live well. 💔

Thank you. And he is and always will be in my heart. In good health, he was a wonderful, beautiful boy. And it has crushed me internally to see him waste away into a shell of his former self at such a young age despite our efforts.

Thank you. I may need someone to talk to this upcoming week since I'll be home alone, taking care of Moxxie. It'll help not to be at work but I'll be so painfully aware of the hole in our home my beautiful boy will leave behind...

I had to take Ezra back to the vet again. He hasn't been doing well and after they ran some more tests, the news was not positive.

My partner and I have discussed it, cried over it, lamented the unfairness of it. Today will probably be his last day with us. My heart is so broken. 💔
