One of the most successful pieces of far right propaganda was to convince so many Christians that helping the poor, feeding the hungry, bringing healthcare to the sick, loving all our neighbors, and caring for our planet was “leftist” and wasn’t actually part of following Jesus.

If our Christianity causes us to protect the powerful and ignore the powerless, that’s when we know we are following someone other than Jesus.

One of the greatest deceptions of our time is that we should be more concerned about immigrants possibly being criminals than we are about those in the highest positions of power, who wear crosses, quote scripture, while actually just using Christianity as a tool to perpetrate injustice.

One of the most blatant forms of hypocrisy in our time is Christians holding all ordinary people accountable to the most rigid moral standards while simultaneously holding their preferred politicians and celebrities accountable to no standards at all.

If Jesus returned and came to the United States today, he would be criticized for not speaking English.

He would be called “Marxist” for telling us all to help the poor.

He would be targeted for deportation because of the color of his skin.

All by people who claim to follow him.
