It was a shitty month for me and most of the month was listening to music on Pandora.
But I read 4 books.

02.01.2026 03:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Five covers of novels. Text excerpt from sixth book. Dorilian grimaced. A haunted look returned to his gaze, pain and memories of pain. βIn that council, just now, I tasted their hatred. Their anger and fear. Their cunning. I didnβt feel these things in Amallar because the Khelds didnβt hate Thron. They only hate me. For a time, I convinced myself I could erase their hatredβ¦ or escape it. Now their anger reminds me why I could not abide Stefan. Every time I was with him, I felt his rage that I existed at all. It was like breathing poison. I could not be in the same room.β βHe was afraid,β Hans said in his brotherβs defense. βI knew that too, and I used it against him. It was so easy to do. I was younger thenβ¦ and angry at being wronged. Not only by him. Stefanβs were the least of the insults I bore, the hurts I took. But he was the one who refused to get out of my way.β Dorilian picked up a stone, its dark shape reflecting little light, then casually flung it into the night. Together they listened to it strike the slope below, a small sound, quickly vanished. βWe wounded each other, a kind of sport, and schemed to achieve petty victories which I knew meant nothing. For a time, I enjoyed being his enemy. Iβd been hated my whole life so what did it matter? It got worse though. The price got too high. It does not matter now.β Maybe Dorilian believed in his own jadedness and had convinced himself he did not mind the hatreds and fears sent against him. Only by employing such a distortion could he venture out into the World. The truth could not be unmade; it could only be hung around his neck. But Hans read the emotion underneath the words. Dorilian was tired. Tired of encountering it all over again. Tired of putting up walls against feeling, adding layers of indifference against sensations and emotions he deeply craved. What was it like to feel so richly and yet have to numb oneself to survive? No wonder the Highborn had embraced both godhood and isolation.
Today is Book Quote Wednesday and the word is TIRED.
This is a portion of a key scene (but not a spoiler) from THE RILL LORD, the final book of the Triempery series (April 2026). Dorilian is tired. He has every reason to be after six books! #bookqw #epicfantasy #WritingCommunity
Happy New Year!
I know I havenβt been on in a while but I came to sayβ¦.
Iβm finishing up 2025 with a total of 222 books read. I might be more active next year but idk.
Iβve been enjoying being offline to just read what I want to read without all the chaos that comes with being an online bookish account.
ππ
I DNFd it.
Not sure why people said itβs good when scenes repeat, itβs boring, has nothing to offer, etc.
But shoutout to the library for buying the book. So I didnβt have to.

βͺIβve been in a reading slight slump and been busyβ¬
Up to page 184. So, quick update.
Book needs a better editor. Itβs riddled with spelling mistakes and grammatical issues.
Some of the serious scenes I find utterly hilarious with how cringey they are.
You know what Beef Pho. I will stir with Happy thoughts. Thank you for the reminder.

Oh my goodness. Yesss
Off to go cry happy tears in a corner.
Itβs early and Iβm extremely tired.
But Iβve been thinking while I get ready for work is about what food plants I want to plant next year.
Iβm thinking JalapeΓ±os. Likeβ¦ a whole bunch of them.
Just so people are aware.
I was informed that apparently this author is problematic.
I didnβt know that at the time I read this and posted this.
Awe, Thank you. I wanted to DNF so bad but for some reason I couldnβt bring myself to do it.

It is.
But it always happens when I read a plethora of classics/poems.
As for the characters⦠meh.
Iβm not deep enough into the book to have much of an opinion about them yet. They are kinda just there.
But⦠this is about it for the first 130 ish pages.
It has a nice blend of world building, story progression, background information on the characters, etc all happening simultaneously.
However, it is progressing slowly and I do wish it would quicken.
Now, there are some aspects I enjoy. The world building is⦠good (so far).
The magic system is good, but not really explained and those that are not accustomed to this type of fantasy will be utterly lost.
Back to world building: there is a lot going on but itβs not all at once.
Butβ¦ on top of that the book is Sooooooooo repetitive and Iβm only 130ish pages in. That alone is annoying. Likeβ¦ if I had a dollar every time the the word βredβ has been used. I could pay this months phone bill.
There are also repetitive scenes with slight differences.
Likeβ¦.
Reading thread 𧡠for the Bookclubβs CR:
So, this weekend we are told to finish Part One before Wednesday. Which part one has 270 pages (and itβs do able). I just donβt feel motivated to do soβ¦ yeah.
Iβm too burnt out to even bother reading.

The stylized cover of Shroud, by Adrian Tchaikovsky, which is black and white with bold pops of yellow and orange.
Donβt judge a book by its cover, but this is a pretty cool cover! The book was great, too, Tchaikovsky ( @aptshadow.bsky.social ) is one of my favorite sci-fi writersβ¦ his stuff is always a nice combo of tech & humanity.

I know Iβm extremely late to the party, but I enormously enjoyed @tkingfisher.comβs Nettle & Bone. Just a terrific read about human characters who happen to be Princesses and Witches on a crazy road trip to kill a dude who has it coming. 5 stars from me, will read again.

Iβm reading Hallopeen to try something new. And so far itβs full of nothing but millennial jokes. Likeβ¦ The first part is full this wannabe Bloody Mary ritual. Instead of Bloody Mary it got changed into βsay I C.U.P three times and pumpkin men will show up to fuck youβ.
*sigh*
And the puns suck
