And then there's the matter of the smoke that does not stay confined to the 18,000 acres. I live over 100 miles away and our air quality is being affected. As the fire grows, so does the smoke.

Every year we have major fires burning new areas of forest. Despite what a lot of folks think about Oregon, only the western 1/3rd is green and lush. The rest is dry and only part is forested. The timbered part is in rugged terrain goes up quickly.

Because it is scary and can grow extraordinarily fast. The area is under red flag watch meaning the conditions are right for a fire to grow quickly - it doubled in size in one day. Exponential growth is hard to contend with.

I can't comment on the quality of the study, but NPR recently covered a Pew Research study that showed we'd still have Trump if those who sat it out voted.
