This administration is fundamentally ruining people’s lives for performative strong man theater, doing so outside the rule of law. We are well past the point of “what would you have done in 1930’s Germany.” We are in it.

Inside the intake room, a sea of trustees descended on the men with electric shavers, stripping heads of hair with haste. I need you to look at this. Don’t look away. Our government snatched these men off our streets with little to no evidence that they were members of a gang, with no criminal history beyond a DUI, and shipped them to a concentration camp in a different country against the orders of the federal court.

Not enough Americans equate 100 years of Jim Crow Laws with fascism and that bothers me. Utilizing imagery of Anne Frank and the gestapo instead of lynchings, forced sterilizations (the Mississippi Appendectomies), internment camps, and sun down towns adds an unnecessary layer of distance. It incorrectly asserts that fascism is this foreign thing that the US has never known, much less allowed. That could not be farther from the truth.

While the Trump Administration is following Hitler’s playbook, they have a plethora of American atrocities to pull from.

I don’t think I ever fully understood how living through the AIDS epidemic until the last month. To sit in a room full of queer joy, and have this voice in the back of your head wondering who isn’t going to make it to the other side of this impending holocaust.

If Roosevelt had told Churchill to sue for peace on any terms with Adolf Hitler and to fork over Britain's coal reserves to the United States in exchange for no American security guarantees, it might have approximated what Trump did to Zelensky. Whatever one might say about how Zelensky played his cards poorly - either by failing to behave with the degree of all-fours sycophancy that Trump demands or to maintain his composure in the face of JD Vance's disingenuous provocations - this was a day of American infamy.

I wonder if there’s a correlation between the #MeToo movement and anti-trans legislation. An intentional switching up of the narrative from men with power are a threat to women, to trans women are a threat to women. Legislators wouldn’t do anything about our rape culture so they found a scapegoat.
