Don’t mind me just tracing the gyres. Talk about politics a lot but mostly want to talk about Stevie Wonder and August Wilson. She stay in the hills, he stay in Atlanta, I pay for them both.

But I’m just saying imagine the ways that an expanded American cultural landscape would provide more off-ramps for people like Trump and his supporters, so many opportunities to put their big feelings into beauty rather than destruction. Anyway.

I mean the more salient examples are things like USAID for sure. (And btw instead of doing the “we want to pay for healthcare” thing, I wish someone would do the “we need to get back to spending our money feeding children, not bombing them” thing).

One billion dollars a day for war. Suddenly my 1B a year for NEA, NEH, IMLS and CPB doesn’t sound so ridiculous huh!

And you would think gays would know this!! No one is walking up to us with a gun saying be attracted to men or else. Ditto with the little trans girls!! No one is telling them you must transition to stop doing gender wrong. They think transitioning IS doing gender wrong. As bigots do!

This has been part of the trans-kids moral panic for years, gay adults going "If I grew up now, they'd convince me I'm trans."

If your movement had real evidence, you wouldn't be pointing to alternative-universe hypotheticals! Child psychologists know the difference between gay kids and trans kids

The play didn’t change, the culture did in the intervening period. Meanwhile, if whites had been watching it to learn about themselves instead of to safari in an new and exotic performance of Blackness, they would have appreciated the act TWO satire, which is actually the best part of the play.

The best example of this is how Slave Play got nominated for a million Tonys bc white people thought it was woke but then by the time the awards happened they found out that Black people had given it the thumbs down and it lost its sociological value and so won none of the million Tonys.

The way culture institutions lag culture… I know it is being studied but it needs to be studied MORE.

HOW TF ARE WE STILL DOING THIS IN 2026?!?!?!

I know they paid for these pieces in 2025 probably at the height of the pro-Trump reactionary turn but like babes we’re out of that, Kansas is going Nazi on trans people while nice whites get murdered in Minneapolis for not hating immigrants enough.

Also Brown but like to be realistic, I’m probably not going to Brown given where I’ve already gotten positive responses and the fact that my boyfriend doesn’t really want to move to Providence. But also…

Ugggghhhhhh Rutgers Newark has already put out decisions for fiction but I think they have NOT put out decisions for poetry (at least nobody On The Internet has said they’ve been notified) and like I would really like to know if I’m getting an interview from Rutgers Newark for many reasons!!

Yeah this is what I mean by a “why I am a good person deserving of love” story lol. Obviously no one thinks of it in exactly those words but most people have a narrative that makes it possible to understand their place in the world in a secure way.

04.03.2026 23:30 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

But yes I very much agree with your distinction.

04.03.2026 21:51 — 👍 2    🔁 1    💬 0    📌 0

Yeah but most people think they have to be good to be deserving of love. Also I think Christianity is like… “God loves everybody whether or not they deserve and so you should too” which is a subtle difference from “everybody deserves love” but I think a meaningful one.

Some straight people do AFAICT

But I anticipate and certainly hope that Hudson and Connor both have long and celebrated careers. And I also hope that like… people’s impulse to compare them doesn’t affect their friendship. I really could imagine both of them having great careers in different ways and hopefully staying good friends

No but in all seriousness, ngl I’m pretty sure Connor Storrie wants to be A Movie Star and is Invested In Film in a way Hudson isn’t. Also Hudson might be a little bit on his Quinta Brunson “I would like to have one job at a time” energy and that is not at all a sin.

Also note this privilege ranking only applies to acting jobs, everything else the privilege ranking is totally different.

This is a joke. It’s also a joke I’m not allowed to make bc even tho I’m Black I’m only half gay (although I don’t even read as straight to people ever I’m pretty sure and I’ve only ever been in a relationship with a man so like I’m close). *bangs gavel on own hand*

04.03.2026 21:42 — 👍 11    🔁 0    💬 2    📌 0

My official ruling that if Hudson Williams was full Asian that would count as less privileged than Connor Storrie being full gay but I’m pretty sure Hudson is half Asian and Connor is full gay so if one does better than the other in Hollywood it isn’t the isms’ fault. *bangs gavel*

I'm teaching about early 20th century eugenics today and was reminded that 9 years ago Republican Representative Steve King was stripped of his committee assignments by his GOP colleagues for this post that simply states what is now bog standard GOP policy/rhetoric on immigration and "civilization."

Also make legislators criminally liable if they intend to gerrymander. Just making it illegal would help deter the kind of large scale out in the open collaboration we see in the Really Bad Gerrymanders.

Idk something like “if you have an efficiency gap greater than x or a mean median difference greater than y across z cycles, the state leg gets its districting privileges taken away, in favor of the court.” You might just optimize for gerrymandering under the threshold but that’s fine.

04.03.2026 19:15 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 2    📌 0

State by state proportional representation could distort the actual composition of the chamber really bad I think, but with a compliant court you could have states elect a delegation that consists of, say, 4.35 Republicans, 5.5 Democrats, and .15 [insert third party here].

04.03.2026 19:02 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

My preferred solution, however, is multimember districts elected via STV or STAR or something like that.

04.03.2026 18:58 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

I mean you’d set an evaluation system like one of the ones proposed in the gerrymandering case for a few years back, and if a state’s districts failed that test x number of cycles in a row (could be 1), mandatory redistricting, probably by a court. If the court decides to gerrymander you’re fucked.

I don’t think this is likely, I am not one of the Bluesky people who knows about war and shit. I am just a silly poet. But if I were to write a story about WW3, well, at least I’d toy around with a beginning where one great power carelessly impedes oil access for another!
