Home from successfully dealing with a family emergency. Some things are still worrying, but there’s a vast sense of accomplishment.

“You managed it.”
“You didn’t think I could do it, did you?”
“No, I didn’t think you could.”

Me: Things are stressful right now, so let’s make sure I practice self-care!

Also me: Up past 3am again reading… will get less than 5 hours sleep.

The answer to: “When are you most productive?” is definitely, “Whenever I’m avoiding something that’s supposed to be top priority.”

Liked your books. Liked some blog posts I’d read. Love the cats. Enjoy your brand of sarcasm.

TFW You aren’t sure if your older relative has lost the capacity to navigate the internet well, or if they just never had skills in that regard in the first place. Also: Trying to figure out how to help remotely is a challenge.

ReproductiveRights.gov - Know Your Rights: Reproductive Health Care While Roe v. Wade was overturned, abortion remains legal in many states, and other reproductive health care services remain protected by law.

The removal of the Department of Health and Human Services Reproductive Rights site, and with it the erasure of accurate and timely info on reproductive health care, rights, and resources, is a clear attack on reproductive rights. You can find the archived site here:

It’s been an issue for me sometimes that I don’t get excited in ways that other people recognize.

One way my excitement manifests though? Insomnia.

Me: Okay, six hours for sleep!
My brain: Four hours is plenty! AWAKE NOW.

By ‘trusted people’ I don’t always mean ‘people I personally know’, but more in the vein of, ‘I’ve watched this person online for a while and they’re generally honest, genuine, and good at fact-checking.’

However, with that said, if there’s something I want to delve into deeply, I will search for multiple sources, and verifications of the story via trusted people who either live nearby to said thing, or who I know do their research on things.

I typically avoid a lot of news to maintain my mental health, but in general, I sometimes read and generally have a modicum of trust for things appearing in the New York Times, or AP News.

I wrote a lot of posts on my own site this year; this is the one that got the most visits, a discussion of why idolizing anyone is probably not a great idea.

It’s such a simple thing, but I’ve encountered so many times over the years that other people mostly did not experience this.

It’s so important, y’all. Every child requires agency to feel respected, accepted, and to grow into an adult who will respect and accept others.

Listen to your kids. 2/2

When I was a kid, the absolute best thing my mother did for me was simply to listen and not dismiss what I said.

If I was uncomfortable with a person, or a place, she listened.

If I had something that was important to me I wanted to do, she listened and supported me. 🧵1/2

Two of the biggest things that seem mostly universal are:
1) Knowing what to expect helps us cope, and the unexpected can be super hard.
2) Having or being able to exert control over our environment can help tremendously.

I’ve been very glad I went and sought out a diagnosis earlier this year, because it just explains SO MUCH.

I tend to be mostly on the ignore side. As in, I understand, but don’t agree, and refuse to adhere.

When my son was very young, people used to tell me that when he got older, I’d miss those days. They were wrong. Once he got old enough to help me out, it was great.
