A ★★★★ review of A Real Pain (2024) This is a perfectly formed comedy/drama, following two cousins who are trying to reconnect on a trip to Poland to re-trace the steps of their grandmother. Benji is a fascinating and complex character,...

Was really looking forward to seeing this and it didn't disappoint! Wish there were more films coming out like this - short, funny and impactful

The 50 men accused in mass rape of Gisèle Pelicot The men accused of raping Gisèle Pelicot have been dubbed Monsieur-Tout-Le-Monde as they broadly represent a microcosm of French society.

This story has disturbed me so deeply, I have so much respect for Gisèle Pelicot for her strength through this trial, while these pathetic men evade and excuse their apalling actions.

Rushmore:
This is very funny, and Max is a great character, but for some reason I didn't love it as much as other people seem to. I do wish I could commit to as many hobbies as Max does though. An enjoyable but sometimes disquieting watch.

A ★★★★ review of Wicked (2024) It is a difficult task turning a beloved musical into a film that both satisfies the diehard musical theatre fans and maintains broad appeal. This film mostly lives up to the task, in large part due t...

Had a very fun time watching Wicked - not perfect but enjoyable nonetheless boxd.it/7Xke4t

Had a great time at the Venice Biennale last week. I know nothing about modern art, but it's so fun walking into a space and getting to see what an artist has done with it and figuring out what it all means

I'm late to this, but Adrianne Lenker's recent(ish) album Bright Future is beautiful, multiple songs stopped me in my tracks and I've been replaying "Sadness As A Gift" all day.

A ★★★★½ review of Dead Talents Society (2024) This is a very fun film with lots of heart. It follows the fate of some ghosts who's continuing existence depends on them earning/keeping their haunting license by being sufficiently scary. This premi...

Finally, my favourite of the three was Dead Talents Society, a very fun Tawainese horror-comedy, which executes a great premise very well and contains lots of heart

A ★★★½ review of La Cocina (2024) This film inevitably draws comparisons with The Bear, given it's location (a restaurant kitchen) and the highly stressful nature of most scenes. However, that's really where the comparison ends. This ...

Second is La Cocina, a stressful film showing the coming together of different cultures and languages in an intense New York kitchen. Again, not everything worked but I was certainly never bored and there was lots to discuss afterwards.

A ★★★ review of Loveable (2024) This review may contain spoilers. Visit the page to bypass this warning and read the review.

First up is the Norwegian film Loveable. An emotional film that makes you reflect on your own life as you watch Maria try and figure out hers. Not everything worked for me, but did appreciate it's advocating for a good nap.

Made my yearly pilgrimage to Leeds Film Festival #LIFF and had a great weekend! Only managed to see three films this year but I enjoyed all of them, despite them being very different. Will post my Letterboxd reviews below:

Question for #filmsky: has anyone seen the recent Norwegian film Loveable and knows what song is playing during the mirror scene?

Sometimes I resort to communicating via a numbered list

I know Labour is far from perfect, but the UK election is possibly the first time I've felt any sort of optimism about politics for my whole adult life. Trump being re-elected feels less like a shock, more like a deflating return to the depressing norm.

Finished Agatha All Along last night (not really a Marvel fan but liked Wandavision). It was mostly fun but also nonsense and an incoherent mess by the end. The cast seemed to be having a good time though

A ★★★ review of The Cabin in the Woods (2011) A fun, meta twist on a classic horror trope. The set-up of the film means it's not too scary (which I appreciated), leaning more towards the comedy. It goes entertainingly mad at the end and was all i...

No it's not Halloween anymore but I forgot to post about it the other day and it's another appropriately scary day. I enjoyed this as a fun twist on a horror film trope, and it's very fun watching the chaos of the final 15 mins unfold

Just watched 'How to lose a guy in 10 days' for the first time. Why do we not get romcoms like this anymore? What happened?

It's tough being a film fan in October. I want to see the films everyone's talking about but I'm also a coward.

I completely agree, unfortunately I watched The Royal Tenenbaums before having this idea... But maybe I'll go back to the beginning to get the full experience

Poster for The Royal Tenenbaums

The Royal Tenenbaums:
I was shocked by how good this is right from the first scene. Packed full of great moments, it doesn't waste a second. Contains all the Wes Anderson quirks whilst still providing characters you care about.

I've seen some Wes Anderson films before, but I've decided to embark on a full watch/rewatch through his whole filmography. I will post my rating and thoughts in this thread. The order is going to be entirely random.
