My illustration for Alan Crosby’s column about the wonders of DNA science. This is in the next issue of Who Do You Think You Are magazine, and was fun to draw (swipe for rough version). At the start of the year I often feel the need to change everything up in terms of my process, style... Sometimes the changes stick and sometimes they don’t. But I keep coming back to the fact that I need to make the process (at least mostly) enjoyable in order to be pleased with the end result. So it comes down to the nuts and bolts of “Do I want to do all my shading in pencil?” or “Do I want to have big curvy lines with a brush or concentrate on using my dip pen?” In this case, I’ve used all three. Perhaps that’s the answer. We’ll see!

Exotic Animal Photo Reference Repository

GenAI has polluted image search results, especially for animal pics. It’s now basically impossible to find accurate art references.

Enter this: a repository of open-access, AI-free images of wild & exotic taxa. Artists creating *without AI* have blanket permission for derivative/transformative use.
