I think this is a good coarse grained analysis, but it's possible and worth doing to get more specific in specific cases that may be exceptions to the rule. For example, nukes didn't have to go through a long process of social dissemination before becoming enormously impactful

Maybe separate road rules for bots and humans. Although if there are any humans on the road at all I guess the bots need to slow down to accommodate them

I'm the same, the night sky doesn't give me that reaction. But like, the boötes void does, and ton 618 does. I feel like in some sense the night sky "should"

I think if you really believe the Everett interpretation, it should give you thalassophobia. The infinitesimal size of our own trajectory compared to the enormity of the continuum of branching worlds surrounding us is kind of horrifying

I think downvotes reduce variance. The most egregious drivel gets buried, but you also lose iconoclastic insights. The top voted comments are lowest common denominator slop

I appreciate the public service you're doing by collecting large lists of people to block in one convenient place

personally if I were reporting accusations from others that I didn't want to stand behind, I would use more equivocal phrasing

I feel like the framework of preference only really makes sense in situations where you have agency over the outcome. As soon as you're able to pick between the two scenarios, you're reintroducing the guilt factor, so 5vs1 is strictly better

Hello, Bluesky community! I'm Peter Singer, philosopher and author, exploring ethical questions, with a focus on animals, effective altruism, utilitarianism and bioethics. I've had it with Elon Musk and his rigged algorithms to promote Trump, so I’m leaving X and joining all of you here.

It’s easy to forget that most people only know “I Can Tolerate Anything Except the Outgroup” and “The Categories Were Made For Man, Not Man For the Categories”. And “Meditations on Moloch” of course.

Ideally people should have integrity in their beliefs. Ideology shouldn't be contingent on whether particular people are nice to you. But from a results oriented perspective we should recognize the fact that people are human, and not alienate them unnecessarily. This kind of blame isn't constructive

To me this feels analogous to standing on the other side of a room from me and bitching about me to someone else in a loud voice. I was obviously likely to see it, and I'm supposed to ignore the disparagement?
