Reposted with alt text. Also, from a cursory look, this appears to basically be true, which is pretty funny. Philosophers... debate.

The DinΓ© Weaver Who Turns Microchips Into Art Marilou Schultz, a math teacher and fourth-generation weaver, pushes the boundaries of the art form by combining technological aesthetics and DinΓ© techniques.

STUNNING

"Traditionally, wearing blankets was functional, but I thought, If fashion evolves, why can’t Native wearable art evolve too? So I used metallic thread to make the blanket shimmer, adapting an old form to a contemporary aesthetic."

You hit on a distinction….theres a difference between play and games that gets overlooked almost always. I also can’t remember who said it (Koster?) but the opposite of play isn’t work, it’s boredom. Also I love Gadamer’s use of spielraum to refer to play as mental wiggle room (paraphrase) πŸ€“

Just got around to reading Sam Altman's latest missive, "The Gentle Singularity."

I am astounded by his sheer amount of denial and self-delusion about the current state of the actually-existing world.

You asked ;-) we don’t look at the structures we operate inside. Employees are costs. They’re not assets. Ask the CFO. No matter how much we want to believe the opposite, we operate in a structure that is genetically built to minimize our cost impact. We can change that but first we have to see it

Our work on Great Zimbabwe used surface hydrology, ethnographic survey and geoarc to show that dhaka pits, previously interpreted as clay pits, were likely intended to collect and store water.

These smart local adaptations to water scarcity are so interesting
