Brown oilcloth tobacco pouch with a yellow drawstring closure. Remnants of polychromatic printed paper label applied to the front depicting spears and shields inside red rectangular panels, rest of label mostly missing. Long brown paper closure tab applied on both front and back of bag, the reverse bears a handwritten date "11-20-12" in black ink. Empty. Remnants of label match those of FIC.007604, which likely indicate Hiawatha brand smoking tobacco with what would have been an illustration of an American Indian figure inside a decorated canoe in the center. Hiawatha brand smoking tobacco was manufactured by the C.V. Winfree Tobacco Co. of Lynchburg, VA, which was the successor to Winfree & Loyd Tobacco Co. Christopher Valentine Winfree entered the tobacco business in 1958 operating under the partnership Winfree & Loyd from the late 1870s to around 1896 when he reorganized independently under the C.V. Winfree Tobacco Co. moniker. The American Tobacco Company then purchased the updated C.V. Winfree company in 1901. C.V. Winfree died soon after in 1902.

Rectangular paperboard box (a) with a conforming removable lid (b) for Samsoun brand tobacco manufactured by Monopol Tobacco Works, both wrapped in red paper on the exterior. Large paper label originally created a seal wrapping from lid (b) onto underside of box (a), now torn open. Label has large coat of arms in the center and stylized lettering that reads "Monopol/Tobacco Works./New York/TURKISH, RUSSIAN & EGYPTIAN/CIGARETTES & TOBACCO" from top to bottom. Edge of label printed with border of repeating Monopol name and small floral detail. Separate rectangular brown paper label applied to lid (b) printed with a geometric foliate border around black lettering that reads "SAMOUN./PURE TURKISH/1 2/3 Oz/CURLY CUT 1 2/3 Oz." Underside of box bears another rectangular applied paper label printed with manufacturer notice and factory information for NY location. Blue paper tax stamp applied across lid and down onto each side and underside of box (torn open). Contains green paper and foil liner. Box (a,b) is accompanied by a pack of rolling papers (c). Small rectangular sheets of rice paper are stored inside a bi-folded light blue paper cover printed with black lettering on front that reads "PACKED ONLY WITH/Mozel Turkish Tobacco/Best Egyptian/Rice Paper/MADE SPECIAL FOR US/MONOPOL TOBACCO WORKS/(Successor to Mozle Bros.)/NEW YORK/STOCK OWNED BY/THE AMERICAN TOBACCO CO./Factory No. 60, 2d Dist. of New York." Back of cover printed with directions. The Monopol Tobacco Works first succeeded The Mozle Brothers Tobacco Company in New York in the late 19th century. Their stock was then bought out by the American Tobacco Company in 1899 to gain legal control of the company. Monopol Tobacco Works specialized in Egyptian, Turkish, and Russian cigarettes and tobacco products, operating a massive factory at 250-252 W. 27th Street.
