ICE raid in Brooklyn: New Yorkers pepper-sprayed, cuffed after trying to prevent man’s detention | amNewYork Chaos unfolded in Brooklyn on Tuesday evening when ICE agents showed up and tussled with local residents who sought to prevent them from detaining a man.

WI is too expensive for my wonderful publisher to send me to as a featured author. Publishers have to pay to have their authors in official programming. So, as a bookseller, I have to unofficially get the word out about my debut novel, inspired by being a bookseller, at the big bookseller show.

Just watched the video of what looks to be another ICE murder in Minneapolis and thinking again of the incredible bravery of these protestors, facing out of control armed paramilitaries with only whistles and phone cameras.

It’s about the inevitable tensions that arise in small businesses, especially small businesses that market a community-minded ethos that doesn’t always extend to its own employees.

It’s told from the perspective of the lead organizer on staff, the store owner, and the middle manager between them. There is a love triangle. There is ex obsession. There are tacos, because it’s set in Austin, Texas, where I lived and worked for nine years.

This book was inspired by my many years of bookselling. It is a very queer novel about working the front lines at a small grocery store (retail life) and what happens when the floor staff decides to unionize.
