Won on a technicality. Islands in the Stream is a Dolly Parton AND Kenny Rogers song.

The person asking for the signature just needs to have the confidence that they’ll also be considered famous/β€œimportant” enough at some point that having the book personalized makes it that much more valuable. Either that or know that a personalized message is way cooler, despite the monetary value.

I usually just listen to something like the No Man’s Sky soundtrack. If I hear words, I shift focus too much.

I couldn’t do an audiobook while working, but I do think it would be a way to get through some of that middle slog of The Wheel of Time…

$71.50 (after fees and taxes) for two tickets in the front row. Face value $30.48 each.

We went to the May 29 game against Hillsboro. Then our flight was cancelled on the morning of June 1. We weren’t sure what to do all day, so we went and saw them play again. Arias, Coffey, and Hornung are all exciting players, too. I was surprised how good that level of baseball was.

I saw Arjun Nimmala playing for the Canadians last year on a trip to Vancouver. It is easy to dream on that young man putting it all together and becoming a star.

I wouldn’t be upset with getting him, but I think the Jays want a bit more pop than Kwan can offer. He certainly would fit into their lineup, though.

As a #BlueJays fan, I am sad to see Bichette go. I am excited for the team, though.

The market is wild right now, and the short-term, high dollar deals are great for these players, but I don’t think they’re great for the game. I wish Bo well in New York. At least he’s not with Boston or the Yanks.

Kyle Tucker not becoming a Jay makes Bo Bichette’s return to the Jays a lot more likely, one would think.

I loved King’s Quest. Roberta Williams is still one of the greatest game designers in my mind. Space Quest was great, too!

I just looked it up, and I guess a VR version came out a couple of years ago, too.

Post a game you remember playing that no one else remembers.

I definitely remember this one by cover, but I don’t remember much gameplay. I feel like there was an upper floor where you could look down a staircase at a lower floor, but I may be mixing that up with another game.

Such a great show. Imagine that movie reveal took place over three or four seasons?

Also, not just my favourite β€œcancelled too soon” show: it’s my favourite show, period.

At least the showrunners were given the chance to wrap it up nicely.

They didn’t offer enough to have him eschew free agency, but he now has seen what free agency has to offer. It will give both him and the front office a better sense of his value. No reason to suppose just because the Jays didn’t pay before free agency that they won’t do so during free agency.

My first thought when I read that was November Rain. Does that qualify as lovely?

In the past week or so I finally got around to seeing One Battle After Another, The Substance, and Anora.

Anyone who says, β€œThey don’t make good movies anymore!” obviously isn’t paying attention.

They managed to pull it off. I am super satisfied with how it all wrapped up.

As an β€˜80s kid, I agree wholeheartedly.

Thanks for five great seasons to everyone involved!

My favourite of the year was One Battle After Another, but in the horror genre it was either Weapons or Sinners. I loved both. I think Weapons surprised me more, but Michael B. Jordan’s performance in Sinners was fantastic. I wouldn’t be surprised to see both him and the movie up for an Oscar.

Nice list! A few in there I missed and must see now.

Sight & Sound has both Weapons and Sinners in their top ten, and I can’t disagree. I don’t think it happens too often that a couple of the top overall films of the year also happen to be horror movies, much as I enjoy the genre.

a man wearing glasses is getting a massage from a woman on the beach . Alt: A man wearing glasses (Roy Scheider) is getting a shoulder massage from a woman (Lorraine Gary) on the beach. The shot creates a disorienting effect using a dolly zoom. It is a famous shot from the movie, Jaws (1975).

Name one movie from your childhood you were way too young to watch.

Given their ethics, their general quality, and the addition of ad-free podcasts, The Verge is a worthwhile subscription for me, but I can see why the paywall is annoying. I think they are planning on expanding their free content (or making it more obvious) in the near future (if not already).

β€œHave Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is my number one, too. The original Garland version is great, but there are so many other solid versions using the Sinatra lyrics. The story of the lyrics from β€œMeet Me in St. Louis” is interesting; it could have been a very different song.

If Tiedemann can be anything or Francis could recapture that form… As Mr. Barker would say, β€œNow you’re cooking with gravy.”

That’s my thought, too. Either way, the Jays profit from this. I really wanted to see a full year but figured it would be big money to see it happen.
