I made another friend today. I can't tell if this is a Red Squirrel or a very red Grey Squirrel...any idea?
I think she's a Grey with very red fur.
I just happened to have a few hazelnuts in my pocket.
Then a really nice fellow and his elderly mother came along and fed her more nuts!

Spot the... Peregrine Falcon
Difficulty: medium
Hint: it's not in the trees.
This is such a popular spot for the raptors. I regularly see Merlins and Red-tailed Hawks in the very same spot.

Red-breasted Merganser
This bird and I really connected today. This species of bird is typically quite wary of humans. If I come within 40' they'll start moving away. And all of the other dozen or so Mergansers did move away... except for this one. She kept coming closer.

Look who I bumped into on my way home from Lake Ontario... its mate was nearby but I didn't notice until they both flew away.
At the south end of Jameson, Parkdale.

Another time I saw a squirrel working on what I thought initially was a nut. It wasn't a nut but the head of a House Sparrow. It was cracking the skull to eat the brain.

That reminds me of a time I came across a Red-tailed Hawk that had severed the head of a pigeon. It has to decide whether to fly away with the body or the small head. It chose the head. I think there's a lot of nourishment in the brain.
