The last thing that any AI associated person should want is it developing "consciousness",like you do understand that if it's conscious we are now discussing why you are denying something with consciousness free will and now your role is not that of a scientist but something else entirely, right

Pete Docter Says Pixar Cut β€˜Elio’ LGBTQ Themes Because β€œWe’re Making a Movie, Not Hundreds of Millions of Dollars of Therapy” The animation company's chief creative officer said they did not want their film to force parents to have conversations they weren't ready to discuss with their children.

Pixarβ€˜s chief creative officer Pete Docter said Pixar cut Elio’s LGBTQ themes because: β€œWe’re Making a Movie, Not Hundreds of Millions of Dollars of Therapy”.

I won’t be watching any more Pixar movies.

An older white woman walks through an ER, surveying the space, and remarks, β€œAnd how’s all this digital shit working out for you now?”

So… I've been writing for about 18 years on the idea that if you somehow manage to make meaningfully conscious machine minds & then you treat them as tools, then you're enslaving those minds, and that's pretty messed up. And this ties into something else I've re-upped recently: LLMs can't say "No."

Seeing ppl circulate projects whose NEH grants were canceled by DOGE reaffirms my argument about AI as a permission structure. Some grants were canceled w/o a β€œno” from the generated summary. DOGE had a mandate to slash humanities funding & AI gave them the veneer of a rationale for their actions.

Literally as I’m arguing with someone about whether AI companies are misleading people into believing their technology possesses God-like super-intelligence I see this monstrosity

Anthropomorphism Is Breaking Our Ability to Judge AI Tech Policy Press fellow James Ball asks, how should we interact with a technology designed to β€˜speak’ with us on what appear to be human terms?

Interactions with large language models blur the lines between what feels like human conversation and the more typical experience of using technologyβ€”which seems to be causing confusion even among what should be experienced and sophisticated users, writes Tech Policy Press fellow James Ball.

THE SHINING is a horror movie because the writer can never leave the part-time job he has to get, and it becomes full time.

Greg Davies: That is one absolutely sodden infant. Excellent work.

Thetis: It's not as easy as you might think, dipping a baby in a river

Alex Horne: So the instructions for the task were to dip the *whole baby* in the river...

FYI: social science research is different from crunching numbers on questions that have already been answered. It is about learning FROM YOUR SUBJECTS what other questions you *should* be asking and haven’t yet, and then following that deeper in.

AI ain’t it.

This completely misunderstands the research process including the point of doing literature reviews. Claude’s β€œanalysis” treats research as paint by numbers regurgitation of pre-existing work.

Kustov & folks who share these views need to give up their jobs in favor of those who want to research.
