They were lucky likely a half mile from shore open water all around and shore ice blocking the boat launch, the ice was traveling fast and could have broken up anytime, I've seen videos only an idiot would have been out there

The MNR was also there trying to launch a boat which was impossible with the shore ice, police and fire everyone was there

Short answer yes,also arrogant pricks who didn't give a shit about endangering every first responder on site and quipped they are all well paid to rescue them
