I used to work with dichloromethane in a lab setting and that stuff is SCARY. We would double glove and set timers for glove changes. Dimethylformamide was the other solvent we used and was just as nasty.

Using DCM for furniture restoration is nuts! Finger-hammering is warranted imo

as lady bracknell famously said, magic is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. the whole theory of modern fantasy is radically unsound

I never expected in our mundane cyberpunk future we'd have to resort to just snail mailing each other cash

I agree with this.
I've been doing local organizing over the last year, and it's been great. Publishing physical objects that people can hold is way more fun than anything on the internet has ever been. Plus it feels more robust against censorship.

Okay, well.

Queer & especially trans authors of erotica and other content deemed 'nsfw' by major platforms, please drop links to where people can find your stories in the replies.

Everyone else: Repost people's links. Stop worrying about the sanctity of your feed & help the most impacted authors.

I have an article series on this for anyone who wants to know about the legal precedent for anti-queer censorship ⬇️⬇️⬇️

It's apt that corporations/governments divided the internet into SFW and NSFW & are now making it all Safe For Work, because that is the defining frame they want to place on the world--everywhere you go is for Work, not pleasure or art or love or culture. You must always Work for Them, or die.

Welp, time to turn off all revenue sharing to itch then, as a recommendation to anyone who uses the platform. Y'all don't deserve your shares of our work anymore.

Some starting points on how to organize against payment processor censorship (in the US):

* Contact your local politicians
* Contact the ACLU & other free speech orgs
* Send tips to reporters abt this issue
* Create infographs and spread the word
* Get the word out via TikTok shorts, YouTube videos

Major Indie Marketplace Itch.io Shadowbans NSFW Content, Trans Authors Impacted A dangerous escalation against free speech and literary preservation from a longtime haven for transfeminine literature.

🚨🚨🚨 BREAKING: In a dangerous evening escalation of the anti-porn war on the gaming industry, indie platform @itch.io has banned a number of NSFW titles and delisted thousands of others.

Trans authors are caught in the crossfire.

MasterCard, Visa, and anti-porn group Collective Shout drove the ban.

Feels like we're mice scurrying from hole to hole, finding only temporary safety, while the owners of the house relentlessly find and exterminate us. And I'm so tired of it.

these weird little fish dudes were one of my first exposures to cosmic horror,

I really like the sequels! especially all the weird programs like the architect and the merovingian who just love to talk talk talk because in the absence of the physical all you really have is discourse.

Apologies to those hoping to see me at Readercon. I tested positive for covid so I couldn't go.

The good news is that because I tested beforehand, I never was there, so there is zero chance I infected anyone. Thank goodness for rapid tests.

I am really sad I had to miss it though :(

Samuel R. Delany's sprawling novel "Dhalgren" appeared in 1975 and has never been out of print since. Chronicling the coming-of-age adventures of "the Kid" (or "Kidd", or just "kid") in the ever-shifting city of Bellona, it challenges its readers by revealing more and more about its characters and setting in ways that force them to re-think everything that came before. Let's discuss this 50-year-old masterpiece, one of the most enormously influential novels in the history of science fiction.

The time loop is a favorite premise in science fiction, fantasy, and, increasingly, romance. What is the nature of its appeal, and has it been growing over time or does it only feel that way? What are the different fun variations on the theme, what does the fascination with going over and over until you get it right say about our society, and how many times have you read this description now? Are you sure?
