To be fair, we first thought our trans son might be a lesbian. And when he was still distraught and self-harming we asked if he might actually be a boy underneath after his doctor asked if he had gender dysphoria. But for sure we were hoping lesbian, simply because it was easier in lots of ways.

That ship has already sailed. The administration is trying to figure out ways to stop GAC in blue states now. I’m not sure the political will is there to actually protect trans kids. Maybe if we could go back in time before oligarchs decided to attack trans kids we could have. But not now.

I remember being frustrated at the slow pace of getting GAC for my kids in a liberal place. One of those kids presented as the other gender from the age of four and didn’t get GAC until they were 11 and it still took time.

Do you know what it looks like now in places that still have GAC for trans kids? Would this be for all GAC even the procedures given to cis kids? Why two doctors? Could a therapist count as one of the doctors?

Not to mention the most common GAC surgery that minors access by far is top surgery. Which in the grand scheme of things is fairly innocuous and pretty reversible.

Except that isn’t true. The Republicans want it to be true. Trump is certainly talking like he’s going to make it true. I’m not sure where voter ID laws stand in Kansas but having to show photo ID is not true nationally.

Beyond that. There are trans folks without driver’s licenses. Invalidating other legal documents affects even more people. For example, children who might otherwise be stealth at school.

Visibility is definitely a double edged sword here. My kids are definitely known as trans by the government. So now we wait.
