I urge everyone to reflect further on what reconciliation and liberatory frameworks actually entail beyond imaginations circumscribed by the state, especially the settler colonial state.

Accordingly, the popularization and uptake of models like "two-eyed seeing" is, necessarily, refracted through the lens of settler coloniality as an embodied epistemology.

Over the last decade and a half, there have been many calls to understand whiteness - framed often as an identity, rather than an ontological, epistemological and embodied framework that guides one's way through the world.

"...The ensuing attention would not be philosophical dialogue...It is not difficult to manipulate the emotions of Western peoples because their routine lives make them vulnerable to such tactics. It is exceedingly difficult to converse with them because they guard their minds and beliefs rigorousl.”

However, whenever I see the incorporation of the language of two-eyed seeing and other Indigenous frameworks in settler-led organizations and state-run bodies, I cannot help but think of elite capture.

Since the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Report in Canada back in 2015, there has been very necessary and often effective steps undertaken to contend with the realities of Indigenous genocide, land theft and ecocide on these lands.

Is it just me or has the framework of “two-eyed seeing” increasingly used to run cover for manufacturing consent for settler state-backed projects and processes, especially as they concern environmental governance?
