Dad has been in hospital for 3.5 weeks. I wanted to call something out... something beautiful yet unapplauded.
The nurses attending to him are Polish, Indian, Filipino, Nigerian, Ugandan and Somalian.
Imigrants.
And they treat my sick and confused dad with such respect. /1

1. As a result of the current high prevalence of influenza and the accompanying media coverage of the spread of the disease, I've been asked about mitigations by a number of friends who take *no precautions against SARS-CoV-2*. A few observations regarding these conversations:

ITV News: BBC to air Would I Lie To You Boxing Day episode featuring David Walliams
So, just to confirm, the BBC canβt keep Robin Ince on the air because his trans allyship brings the organisation into disrepute, but they can keep David Walliams, who performed Nazi salutes at the recording of this very show, on the air despite him being predatory towards women. Cool. Very normal.

Please share this widely. There have been 13 peer-reviewed critiques of the Cass Review, to the extent that academia regards it as pseudoscience, but so far all have been subject to organised censorship by mainstream media. This is the first time one has broken through. Oz Guardian only still.

Please remember, every time you see a newspaper or magazine article denigrating people - people like myself - who choose to avoid infection with SARS-CoV-2, there will always be a tiny, quiet voice in the mind of the author whispering, 'what if they're right'?
We are right.

NHS England Β» Report of the independent ADHD Taskforce: Part 1
April 2025
An independent taskforce *just* did a huge review of ADHD in England, and the conclusion was that it's "under-recognised, under-diagnosed and under-treated."

Itβs racist, itβs extremist and itβs immoral
The right is still calling for deportations, and the government is still being cowardly about it. Also: Londonβs first green belt; some notes on a shark; and some news, on my next book.
"The idea of deporting people with settled status is disgusting, and anyone proposing it should be immediately drummed out of polite society. Breaking promises made in good faith to our friends and neighbours is racist, extremist and immoral."
I'm basically shouting at the sky here, but still.

When Will the Lion Concern Himself
Joking memes make light of the uncomfortable reality: everyone's got a little of that post-COVID brain damage these days
Nobody has Long COVID, but everybody has brain fog, cognitive decline and memory loss. I talk about the overwhelming scientific evidence that COVID damages the brain, and the overwhelming social unwillingness to acknowledge it in my latest:

Beyond long COVID β how reinfections could be causing silent long-term organ damage | CBC Radio
Scientific evidence is painting an unsettling picture: COVID infections, even if mild or asymptomatic, may be causing long-term cellular and organ damage, as well as increasing your risk of developing...
//"There is no such thing as a COVID infection without consequence," says long COVID researcher, David Putrino//

The NHS has a vaccine problem: staff donβt want the jab
Almost 90 per cent of employees at one health trust rejected the offer of a flu vaccination last winter, putting patients at greater risk of infection
NHS frontline staff are refusing the flu jab in ever-greater numbers and putting patients at risk. Almost 9 in 10 at one of Englandβs largest hospital trusts were unvaccinated last winter.
Appalling selfishness towards disabled patients thatβs sadly not surprising. www.thetimes.com/uk/healthcar...

Whenever I go to the hospital in my N95, people back away from me

Many wonβt share the elevator with me
They all share two things in common:
None are masked
They donβt want to get sick

It's never too late to start wearing a mask again! Wear them in public, in almost any context but especially when you're indoors, when 50%+ others present aren't masking, if you're in close physical proximity with others, and/or if there's scant ventilation (including lack of wind outdoors).

You do not have to accept repeat Covid infections as inevitable.
Mitigations work. Layers work best.
Get your booster. Clean & ventilate the air. Test and stay home when sick.
Perhaps most important of all, wear a well fitted N95.
It protects you & those around you. Community care can save us!

Wind turbines power 'surprising' tourism boom
A tourism industry is growing around windfarms in south-east England, including Rampion in Brighton.
I think we can put to rest the notion that offshore wind turbines spoil views and economies. The fact is that they can make coastal sites far more interesting and boost tourism as people travel to experience them, sometimes even up close.
Boat tours to see the turbines are "surprisingly popular."
