Beyond long COVID โ how reinfections could be causing silent long-term organ damage | CBC Radio
Scientific evidence is painting an unsettling picture: COVID infections, even if mild or asymptomatic, may be causing long-term cellular and organ damage, as well as increasing your risk of developing...
//"There is no such thing as a COVID infection without consequence," says long COVID researcher, David Putrino//
so fun watching the Official Five Year Empirical Science quoting back to me word for word what I've been saying since 2020 to friends and family who all just stare silently in response

Mary-Ann Stephenson was very active in feminist politics in Coventry during the 2010s. I can confirm she is extremely transphobic, although she always kept her nastiest comments behind closed doors.
This proposed appointment should be resisted in the strongest possible terms.

The NHS has a vaccine problem: staff donโt want the jab
Almost 90 per cent of employees at one health trust rejected the offer of a flu vaccination last winter, putting patients at greater risk of infection
NHS frontline staff are refusing the flu jab in ever-greater numbers and putting patients at risk. Almost 9 in 10 at one of Englandโs largest hospital trusts were unvaccinated last winter.
Appalling selfishness towards disabled patients thatโs sadly not surprising. www.thetimes.com/uk/healthcar...

Want to repeat that if folks even wore masks just where itโs easyโin the grocery store, on the subway, sitting at your desk at workโwe could likely knock down community transmission substantially, and make life a lot safer in places where mitigation is harderโlike nursing homes.

Whenever I go to the hospital in my N95, people back away from me
They sanitize their hands. Some use their sleeve to open a door Iโve touched
Many wonโt share the elevator with me
They all share two things in common:
None are masked
They donโt want to get sick
Public health has failed.

It's never too late to start wearing a mask again! Wear them in public, in almost any context but especially when you're indoors, when 50%+ others present aren't masking, if you're in close physical proximity with others, and/or if there's scant ventilation (including lack of wind outdoors).

You do not have to accept repeat Covid infections as inevitable.
Mitigations work. Layers work best.
Get your booster. Clean & ventilate the air. Test and stay home when sick.
Perhaps most important of all, wear a well fitted N95.
It protects you & those around you. Community care can save us!

Wind turbines power 'surprising' tourism boom
A tourism industry is growing around windfarms in south-east England, including Rampion in Brighton.
I think we can put to rest the notion that offshore wind turbines spoil views and economies. The fact is that they can make coastal sites far more interesting and boost tourism as people travel to experience them, sometimes even up close.
Boat tours to see the turbines are "surprisingly popular."

In the last year before Covid arrived in England, 4,059 people waited more than twelve hours to get admitted to hospital after the decision was made to admit them to hospital.
During the emergency phase of the pandemic that number rose to a staggering 48,626.

And it's reinforced with the other rhetoric: "squalid", "incalculable damage". Starmer made a choice not to go with "balancing" language. Whether he's an actual Powellite or just cosplaying as one, it's unconvincing and unpleasant. The "hygiene" issue for politicians works both ways.

I hope youโre not waiting for some clever defence of Starmerโs speech. As you know, I try to be fair and have praised him on foreign policy. I donโt think the White Paper is terrible, but ALL of the language surrounding it is inexcusable, insupportable, and indefensible. He can kiss my migrant butt.

And politically stupid, too. Alienates core vote (& they do have places to go) in pursuit of votes he'll rarely get, & demolishes his core policy agenda of growth, making his re-election more unlikely. Even those (inc. me) willing to cut him a lot of slack feel betrayed. A truly awful day for UK.

Perhaps more significant, the revolting word here - "squalid" - used in Starmer's speech today seems as provocative and as significant as Thatcher's notorious comment about Britain being "rather swamped" by migrants in 1978. Then, as now, it was a Powellite dog whistle. We are truly in hell.

All of us.... every single last one of us... are descended from immigrants. And without it, this country would just be a bunch of uninhabited islands on the edge of the world. Everything that built this country... and everything it is... springs from that. And we should embrace it, not decry it.
