Each night I watch my neighbor sitting on her front porch vaping, and I long to say something, anything. To tell her she has choices that don’t include life changing surgery & pain. Instead I wave and say goodnight. Until you live through this, you cannot possibly understand. Nobody can.

I am very grateful for the care I’ve received, but as a non-smoker all my life, I’m pretty pissed about the whole thing. I never smoked. I always have tried to stay healthy despite having MS & fighting the massive side effects of treatment drugs.

Yes, they “caught it early”, but even after having part of my left lung removed, there are still suspicious nodules on my right lung to be scanned. It’s a cloud hanging over me. I’m still recovering from surgery & trying to find my way.

I am not a warrior. I’m not a poster child. I’m a woman living with lung cancer. Please don’t tell me, “You’ve got this!” or extol my virtues as a fighter. I did not go to war. I never enlisted. The war just showed up and tanked my life in short order.
