12.06.2025 14:55 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Talk of trade deficit is focused on goods (manufacturing), but what is the trade situation with services, especially in relation to tech & entertainment? Surely we 'export' more movies, video games, operating systems, software, podcasts, etc, than we 'import'. How do those dollar values compare?
08.04.2025 03:08 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Alternatively, if the goal is to reduce all tariffs and barriers on US exports (as an example, say EU VAT is eliminated and China eliminates all government subsidies) .. can US manufacturing ever be competitive if the playing fields really are totally level?
Best case scenario.
Yes, this.
PLEASE ask a bunch of experts to play out the best case scenario. What's the end game?
"Manufacturing returns to US because prices are high enough to pay US workers?" ... doesn't this only work if tariffs are permanent? But even so, high prices would require even higher wages.
I understand gov. layoffs represent a fraction of US jobs, & thus shouldn't affect the macro economy, but what are the expected downstream results from the scale of canceled gov. grants & contracts? Also, not enough to matter to the macro? Is it wrong to assume grants primarily pay salaries?

I have the perfect location for them in our recently added sunroom. I will share a follow-up when they have arrived.

Cedar Waxwing in Feeder - A Yellowish Brown bird with black around the eyes and back, an orange beak, and red tips on the wing.
A thrush (bird) in the feeder.
A blue jay in the feeder.
Here are sample photo from recent video shoots in the studio.

Sure, I may have gotten slightly carried away with my VR bird feeder studio. But I'm enjoying the fruits of my labor.

You know whatโs better than a frustrated 5 year-old yelling at Alexa to play their favorite tunes? The same kid using a joystick to navigate and select those same tunes on an arcade cabinet.

A possible solution is to swap scenes depending on where motion is detected and "blur out" the non-converged pixels. Not sure if I can accomplish that with my existing tools.
Simpler, I may just drop a cloth over the entrance so "non-converged branches" won't strain your eyes.
It is interesting (although unsurprising) that the focal convergence between near and far is so significant, and this can be seen in the feeder.
If I have the "focus set to inside", any trees are out of alignment (and vice versa). So I set Scenes in OBS. (One near, one far).
I installed my custom VR camera rig into my bird feeder. I set it to record video when it detects movement, and it captured some good video of a Blue Jay, which I uploaded to Deovr's streaming service (YouTube for Stereographic VR).

@kairyssdal.bsky.social I am no economist, so help me out...
If the big contribution to current inflation is housing. But high rates raise the cost of new construction and mortgages, isn't the fed just fighting fire w/ fire? It seems this old Fed logic justs enriches the wealthy but hurts the rest?
Thrilled to announce that our game has launched!
