Just last week the German government gutted the heating law which was supposed to drive a transition away from gas.

The timing could not have been worse: Gas prices are up 50% today and this crisis could worsen significantly. This will happen again and again and the consumer pays the price.

Zeer negatieve ontwikkeling deze uitspraken over int. recht (niet enkel door NLe ministers). Slecht dat journalisten daar niet op doorvragen.

"Dat is aan juristen". Nee, dat is ook aan regeringen.

"Niet het enige kader". Wat is dan het alternatief? Een nachtmerriescenario, vermoed ik.

I don't think this ends well for the US but the extent to which commentary in European broadcast media is playing down the level of damage US airpower is inflicting on Iranian state capacity is absurd.

Even if a regime holds on, its basic condition changes if the state it governs falls apart

Mensen zien dat wel niet altijd of hebben in de 'haast' niet door dat er al heel veel reacties zijn. Heb het ook wel eens achteraf. Is een gezonde gewoonte eerst te checken maar dat zal altijd blijven gebeuren.

Gasvoorraad op de bodem, straat van Hormuz dicht. Geen Russisch en geen Gronings gas. Goed moment om er op te wijzen dat het de VVD en de gassector ( lees Shell ) de afgelopen 20 jaar gelukt is om het uitfaseren van het gebruik van fossiel gas te saboteren.

That said, I don't get the impression political leaders are considering the bigger picture (Is US trying to consolidate control over fossil energy globally? How dead is int. law now? Is US playing us the same way on Ukraine?).

Israel has closed all the crossings into Gaza and reimposed total siege.

I'd reframe this a bit insofar as the Iranian economy and infrastructure grids are in such disastrous condition that a concerted airpower campaign can shatter the Iranian state, but without even SOF boots on the ground the US won't be able to shape what happens next

And why should we, Europe, think the US will give us a different treatment in their diplomacy on Ukraine?

Our leaders should be presuming the US administration is acting in bad faith until proven otherwise.

Het zou inderdaad productiever zijn om na te denken over welke compromissen belangrijker zijn.

Dit kabinet gaat het niet lukken om meerderheden te vinden zonder hier en daar toegevingen aan GL-PvdA, maar wat heeft dan prioriteit? Minder bezuinigingen op de zorg? Actie op Gaza? Vermogensbelasting?
