And of course I gotta mention Title Fight's Shed, a much more melodic, driving, hardcore-tinged record that perfectly captures the malaise of being stuck in a small rust belt town. It's everything 2000s pop emo should've been, executed almost perfectly

And to cap off I wanna mention two midwest emo influenced albums from the 2010s emo revival, La Dispute's Wildlife is a visceral concept album about a poet emotionally caught between the withering worlds of his rural Michigan hometown and his adoptive city of Grand Rapids post-great recession

(Also of that ilk I wanna mention I Hate Myself, though they lean into the suicidal lyrics and "I can't get girls bc of my personality" attitude so hard it loops around into hilarious self-parody. Definitely off-putting for some but kinda charming imo. Still worth checking out for the riffs alone)

There's also tons of great skramz bands that incorporates midwest emo style guitar work such as Saetia, I Hate Sex's Circle Thinking EP, and some tracks by local heroes theyhungusfrompowerlines

Some darker, more stripped down acts from the classic era are Indian Summer (not quite proper midwest emo but certainly influential), The Lazarus Plot (great band with a hair-raising, woman-fronted poetic style), and The Newfound Interest in Connecticut (Longer, more post-rock influenced tracks)

If you want a good genre-defining classic to start with I'd recommend Sunny Day Real Estate's Diary. It's got a lot of the same whiny indie-boyisms but is aided by more dynamic song structures and some really punchy alt-rock informed riffs in some places

Yeaaaah that'd do it, as good of an album as it is it's probably the most cliche and entry-level record in the genre. I'm not exactly an expert but I can throw u some recs that might be a bit more your speed
