A small dolmen, several upright stones supporting a capstone in a field surrounded by yellow flowers. A small child stands to the right and another sits on top of the capstone.
Pic for #TombTuesday from a summer 2011 trip to Plejerupdyssen, near Holbaek in Denmark. This dolmen stands on a long barrow which is surrounded by kerbstones.

Many standing stones arranged in "ship shape", probably from the Iron Age, but possibly earlier (or from what I understand something there earlier). A cliff top site overlooking the sea in southern Sweden.
Ales Stenar in Scania has lots!?!? Not sure it's early though. Sorry for the terrible pic.

A photo taken on a wet day from behind a car window showing several standing stones - of those visible two are tall and two are much smaller. A fence and small trees obscure the view of the circle which has nine stones.
The Nine Stones at Winterbourne Abbas, pic taken while driving past on the A35 (I wasn't doing the driving!). I was surprised I actually got them. No time to stop and have a proper look on this occasion, and of course it was pouring with rain. #StandingStoneSunday

Three visible stones. All less the 0.4 metres high. Siblyback Lake just visible in the distance.
A view of more stones, aligned in a row stretching up a gentle moor land slope.
A small section of the Craddock Moor stone row. 244m long, the stones are tiny so my photos don't really do it justice. Set in a landscape that includes cairns, an embanked avenue and a stone circle, one of my favourite places to explore in St. Cleer. #StandingStoneSunday

A large stone cairn partially covered with turf on open moorland.
Out and about on the Craddock Moor area of Bodmin Moor to see this #TombTuesday cairn which is one we watch due to damage by some idiot(s). From this angle it doesn't look too bad, but we now have a fairy stack with the various other rearranging that's gone on. historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-...

It will be worth the wait. I had plans this week to catch up on some area rep bits and pieces for CAS but not sure that will happen. I don't mind a bit of rain, but what's the point of being out on the moors when you can't see where you're going!

A bright blue sky (a rarity!) provides the background to a circle created by standing stones with a central stone which leans towards the left of the circle from the angle the picture is taken, makes it look like a sundial.
Boscawen-Γn stone circle near St Buryan, #Cornwall. A #StandingStoneSunday taken on Valentine's day three years ago. We visited several Penwith ancient sites that day which was much better than flowers and a fancy restaurant!

The colour photo shows a collection standing in front of a church. There is a calvaire, several small standing stones, a statue of a man, a very tall menhir and two stones which have brass (?) memorial plaques presumably to WW1 and WW2 (I didn't take close ups).
This picture is a different view of the previous, but included the flag pole with the French tricolor which was obscured in the previous view.
If a #StandingStoneSunday post can represent how I'm finding life as an Assistant Headteacher as I reach half-way through my first year in the job - it would be this assemblage from Plozevet in Brittany. A bit of everything going on here!

Enjoy! And wear waterproof boots! This photo was taken a year ago during a very wet spell - the surrounding moor/footpaths were under water in parts so we had to pick our route carefully. This year I think we're currently experiencing even more rain.

Carnac, Feb 2012. Running through the rows of alignments.
Hellstone Dolmen in Dorset, 2011
Somewhere in Spain, 2010. This one can still fall asleep wherever and whenever. It's a skill.
At the Menhirs de Monteneuf in Brittany, 2007. The other one probably ran in the opposite direction.
Celebrating 21 years of (surviving) being parents to twins this week. Plenty of pics of them running away from the camera while visiting old stones. #StandingStoneSunday @chrisull.bsky.social

A large standing stone - nearly 5 meters high stands on moorland. This photo has a grey sky. The stone looks bright though as veins of feldspar run through the shale creating shade of grey and white.
Cornwall's largest standing stone - Men Gurta on St Breock Downs. The power lines behind making it look like it's held up by string. #StandingStoneSunday

An inner chamber vault with exquisite stone work lit by a small doorway through which daylight floods. This was built in the Neolithic, if someone told you it was a medieval abbey crypt you probably wouldnβt argue.
