A photograph of a fossil insect in a rock. The rock is beige fossil black, and kinda patchy in colour. It has a head towaerds the top, and the majority of the fossil is two easy to spot wing cases, which is how we know this little dude(tte) is a beetle.

Beetles are the most speciose animal order: 25% of described animal species are beetles. Everything has to start somewhere, though, and for #FossilFriday, here is the earliest known 'beetle' - the 297 million year old Coleopsis, found in Freisen (Saarland, Germany).

This should be a lot of fun! Help us find out if BES journal data and code sharing policies are actually working, with a little side bonus quest about data equity 🤓

Birds are dinosaurs who shrugged off a couple apocalypses. Some eat bone marrow. Some drink nectar. They outswim fish in the sea. They smile politely at gravity’s demands. ‬

‪I am grateful to see them. I am grateful to feed them. I am grateful to know them.‬

Well the idea of wielding genetic power to make big bucks from a zoo never made much sense in the first place. I mean keeping animals like that alive would be preposterously expensive and who ever heard of billionaires making their money off of zoos? But willing to suspend my disbelief there.

I feel like this is in the canon somewhere. I know Hammond had a mini elephant he would take to investor meetings in the book. Dolores is definitely at least a movie marketing dream.

Comic. [two people in labcoats look at body pierced with blade draped over bench] PERSON 1: We found him lying uncomformably on the lab bench. I wonder if the iron-rich intrusion in his back is related. PERSON 2 with ponytail: It could be clastic. Maybe a rift opened in his body, and the intrusive material later fell into the hole.
