💯 this. I was careful to distinguish between stuff that my kid was just going to have to live with ( rules he just didn't like) and things that were a huge NOPE. But I know his admin did not like it when I showed up. And there were multiple issues with multiple classes. Not just 1 thing.

A friend who is Beta reading my novel just made a comment that she wishes she had 'thing x, just like Character' and it took me a minute to realize she was referencing my book. It's a first for me and I am FLOORED. #amwriting #booksky

SOME people cannot afford a passport. Or dont have the transportation to get to an office to apply for one because not all towns have offices. Most people In the US live within 25 miles of of an acceptance facility but without a car that can be a huge burden. Some can't afford to switch to a Real ID

You can sue for hostile workplace. Why not hostile living place? Alienation of affection for families who have been split by MAGA lies. None of that should be considered part of his job.

For this pass, absolutely. I got the plot done in about 6 weeks but it was clearly at the expense of some mechanics. In starting the polish pass I noticed it. So I highlighted them all plus a few other fun things (like repeating basic character traits 8 times). Knocking them out one by one.

Looking to trade beta reads with 2 people each for 2 separate novels. 1) 77k word Comedic fantasy/workplace satire 2) 65k offbeat mystery. Strong female MCs. Not romance. I will read anything tho I'm least good at hard scifi. #booksky #betareads

Read. But also don't compare your writing to others just to find yours lacking. If you want to improve, sure. But your writing also presents your unique viewpoint. Don't 'improve' so much that you lose your voice.

And I guess given our history, the history as a Nation of brutally policing black and brown citizens and non citizens alike, maybe LATEST has always been the right word. And at least 5 people have been yelled in shooting incidents with ICE in the last few months.

MS Now is doing the same. Use of LATEST shifts this to the expectation that this is one of many and we expect there to be more. Chilling that this is the 2nd only in Minneapolis.

The specific ways we use language flavor understanding and interpretation. "Latest" in this screen cap of a CNN story is indicating we have accepted and normalized the idea of ICE et al killing citizens.

Today, avoiding the awful means editing for 'ghosts,' or things that are on the page but that I did not set up or reveal. Also for decisions that were made off page but would be better as full scenes. Wish I wrote 100k and edited down. I write 50k and edit UP. #amwriting #amediting #booksky
