Especially a bummer for a game as lovingly crafted as Silksong. Some of my favorite boss fights of all time have been in this game.

Also some of the absolute worst, dogshit, “random bullshit go” and “nothing personal, kid” bosses I’ve ever fought.

I play games to not think about this dumpster fire of a world. To overcome challenging but interesting obstacles.

Silksong isn’t that. It’s been a slog.

On another hand, it does suck to watch a style of game that I’ve loved for a while now enter into an arms race with itself - we must cater to the lore nerds and the speed runners and the challenge runners and people who are just kinda mid at games but still love them get left behind.

I had this experience with the Elden Ring DLC too. These kinds of games are outpacing my basic skill level and willingness to put up with bullshit. They’re not being made for casual, mid-skill gamers. And on one hand, that’s fine - not every game is made for everyone.

I think I have probably 2 bosses left in Silksong. An incredible game made with such care and devotion that has ended up simply exhausting me because nobody took Team Cherry’s face gently and said “hard /=/ good, scale it all back 10% and don’t waste the player’s time, it’ll still be a good game”

I have to hand it to them, it's an incredible bit to publicly lose a game of chicken, admit that's what happened, and then spend the next day lecturing everyone about courage and tenacity
