I'm actually slightly surprised that WotC gave up the ghost so quickly.

It felt perfect for the 1980s. Just as D&D had schlocky 80s fantasy movies and Saturday morning cartoons to inspire us, post-apocalyptic sci-fi had almost as many VHS B-movies and Thundarr. Gamma World also felt like the perfect segue from Expedition to the Barrier Peaks.
